No bin lid in bathroom

I'm probably being unreasonable because it's her house but this has brought back childhood annoyance so I've got to let it out here.

My period has just come and I'm going to stay at my Mum's tomorrow for the duration. She has an open bucket style bin with no lid in her bathroom. I'm also going to be sharing this bathroom with DH and tween/teen DSs. Obviously I can just get over it, women have periods etc etc. Going to get some bags to wrap them in.

It reminds me of how this bin was the bathroom bin throughout my adolescence and I had to put used sanitary towels in my bedroom bin (no lid either). I was so embarrassed 😐

Bathroom bins should have a lid. Period. Literally!

Women have periods. Don't need to be embarrassed but they should not be forced to advertise it to all if they would prefer privacy.

Take some nappy sacks or similar, bag up and place in main bin. Don't use the bathroom bin for soiled sanitary ware if no lid.

I was brought up to wrap my used sanitary towels and put them in the big bin. Just as an aside the bathroom bin should have a liner.

Lid or no lid, people may see stuff if they happen to use the bin after you.

Neither my mum nor my dad had bathroom bins in their respective homes at all when I was growing up and it never occurred to me to mind about this. I think I just wrapped whatever used stuff and took it to a different room to throw away. Embarrassment, meh

Now my bathroom bin has a lid and pedal, but I suppose arguably that makes it less hygienic and more of a faff because the lid becomes an extra element to clean (top and interior).
