Goldengirl123 · 21/12/2025 20:12

I turned 68 last week (I am a young 68) and I have recently turned into a horrible judgemental person. I seem to get wound up about things.

We’re pregnant - NO
I’ve reached out - NO you have contacted them

There are so many things that annoy me

What has happened to me?

Maybe you’ve just reached the age where you can see through all the bullshit?

Fwiw I hate the We’re pregnant thing too

Goldengirl123 · 21/12/2025 20:16

I don’t like myself

asdiouwern · 21/12/2025 20:16

I never understand what “a young X” was all about tbh…

asdiouwern · 21/12/2025 20:16

And would actually put it in the same category as your pet peeves - sorry OP!

Goldengirl123 · 21/12/2025 20:17

Well other people I know who are the same age as me can act old and others don’t

No don’t be sorry. I am horrible

Jojobees · 21/12/2025 20:18

I’m in my 40’s and hate it. I don’t even know why I hate it. But what I hate most is “can I get?” No you can’t.

Evaka · 21/12/2025 20:18

You'll have said things as a young un which boiled your elders' piss. Chill, it's all over in the blink of an eye and reaching out to say we're pregnant isn't causing anyone serious harm.

I know but I get so annoyed!

Hey, I'm reaching out to tell you we're pregnant. Let's consume content together going forward.

I feel dirty after typing that.

Lovelynames123 · 21/12/2025 20:21

At least you, presumably, don't have teenagers living with you...at 45 I've had to learn a whole new language!

Personally, I like to make up new words to annoy them eg the other day I announced we'd watch a snoovie (movie they like where I can nana nap) and I'm obviously soooooo embarrassing. You need to go with the flow and, if it's aimed at you, say something ridiculous back!

Garman · 21/12/2025 20:21

I’m 40 and both of them have been giving me rage for quite a while. Especially the reach out. Contact was a perfectly fine way of saying it and shorter and not as Americanised and it’s being entirely abandoned in favour for a longer ridiculous phrase.

Newsenmum · 21/12/2025 20:22

But do you like going on holibibs with hubby in the arvo?

How do you feel about “deep diving” or “hot flashes” or “a pop of colour” or things “packing a punch”? Just so I know.

Ooh acrimony okay with those but K font really know anyone who would say those things (I don’t know what deep diving means)

Porch pirates. Goes without saying.

The age thing, yes, there is a huge difference. My neighbour is 92, walks everywhere, out every day, bingo, social clubs, darts. She is amazing. Another neighbour is 101 and she's out walking her dog every morning to buy a newspaper.

My DM, 79, well, she's definitely not a 'young' anything.

My best friends, all late 60s and 70s, go on safari, cruises, go hiking around Vietnam, India and Thailand, solo, whilst dealing with cancer.

I'm 54 and a very ancient 54. I live vicariously through my friends! So yes, absolutely you can be a young any age you like. Now I've forgotten what the post was about, sigh...

DinoLil · 21/12/2025 20:42

Oh! Yes, That was it! The bullshit filter! Congratulations, you have become a person who takes no nonsense and no longer has a doormat on their head!

MrDobbs · 21/12/2025 20:50

As you know, it happens to a lot of people as they get older. Some justify it as "seeing though the bullshit", or they earned the right to be grumpy, or just DGAF.

Whatever the reason or justification, the fact is, people don't enjoy the company of grumpy people or moaners and complainers. Whether the moans are justified or they are a really good person are irrelevant.

At least you recognise it in yourself and have a choice as to whether you want to be someone other people enjoy being around, or don't care.

MaidOfSteel · 21/12/2025 20:50

I’m in my mid 50s and that bullshit filter is well and truly active with me.
But, unlike you, I don’t care. I like being older, wiser and more able to read people. I’m not going to apologise for it. You’ve no reason to dislike yourself, OP; we all change as we get older, and for me I like these changes.

Icecreamhelps · 21/12/2025 21:00

I've just had to sit through a day of sales training, delivered by actors. To teach me how to do a job I've been doing for 25 years my bullshit filter is completely clogged and needs a refresh reading your posts have helped.

almondflake · 21/12/2025 21:01

there are so many phrases that irritate me at 61 . A red lip , swap it out, change it out , a journey to find myself, curated being used all over the place from interior design to gift baskets to name but a few but I bet i make others cringe when I use Oki doke or call my dog Dude .
I am making myself chill out and not let myself get wound up by the petty things because I bet I was just as annoying when I was younger , probably still am to be honest lol 😂

Welcome to the "I'm too old for this shit!" stage of your life. Embrace it, it can be quite liberating, but don't let stuff like this wind you up, just tell yourself it's because people are idiots (which they often are). I try to be serene about stuff like this, but if I hear one more person (especially a politician or news announcer, who should know better) say nucular instead of nuclear........🤬
