MIL driving me mad

every conversation leads back to her talking about herself and her depression. Every. Single. One. She speaks over people, interrupts them constantly esp FIL. I recently had an operation to fix a torn ACL, she came over to see me and just talked about her depression the whole time, how she pops painkillers every day to help her sleep. she will ask how are you, then just goes into one about her depression and how it’s different for her how she can’t take the tension blah blah blah. The constant attention seeking is driving me bonkers. She hadn’t gotten any help for her depression, refuses to take pills or go to the doctor. I can’t cope with it anymore, had years of it. AIBU?

Don’t open the door to her. You were asleep/whatever.

Minimise contact.

Hold your hand up and say ‘Let me stop you there, Angela. I don’t think you realise how much yiu talk about your depression. I’m going to have to ask you to speak about it to your GP instead of me. It sounds serious, you need professional help, and I don’t have the qualifications.’

Repeat as necessary in shorter form as a precursor to changing the subject. ‘See your GP, Angela, as I said yesterday. Now, anyone for a mince pie?’
