Have what you like. That’s the joy of Christmas.

AANursinghome · 20/12/2025 16:52

What are you asking? If it’s ok for you to eat what you want to eat?

catin8oot5 · 20/12/2025 16:52

If that’s what you fancy then go for it! I love a veggie sausage more than a normal one! Loads of veg, yorkie puds and gravy and it will be lush.

You can have whatever you want!

As a veggie though I just have all the sides, and healthy bit of cauliflower cheese

I've always had nut roasts etc but realised that actually I dont need them

Myfridgeiscool · 20/12/2025 16:53

Completely not being unreasonable.
Get your favourite ones and enjoy them!

Everydayimhuffling · 20/12/2025 16:56

That's what my kids are having, while I eat nut roast (mostly pescetarian family). I think they work well with Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes and roast vegetables, which is most of the point of a Christmas dinner to me! I think it's fine, OP.

Snooks1971 · 20/12/2025 17:08

OP absolutely have whatever you fancy :) and embrace it.

IMO the “sides” are always the best bit anyway, controversially, Yorkshire puddings, stuffing, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, bread sauce….sprouts, carrots…roast potatoes, redcurrant jelly AND mint sauce (gets coat) lashings of gravy.

DD17 and me are sharing this from Waitrose, otherwise I favour a nut roast which is basically a nutty stuffing anyway Confused The Quorn roasts in the frozen section are similar to white roast meat (sort of!)

Meat wise for the rest of the family we have a Duchy Organic Free Range Chicken just because that sits better with my ethics.

Start your own tradition!

Why would you need to ask? Confused

Runssometimes · 20/12/2025 17:09

My DS wants veggie sausages for Christmas. DH and I want nut roast but he’s not keen so we’re going to do both with all the trimmings. Nothing wrong that.

Any recommendations for a nut roast please ?

Of course you can! We have a cheddar and vegetable roast that's like cheesy stuffing, with Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, a tray of roast carrots, onion and parsnips, Brussel sprouts, bread sauce and gravy (even though there's no meat) because that's what we all like. If you like veggie sausages then have them and enjoy it.

Bigtreeesss · 20/12/2025 17:12

i find veggie sausages a bit naff, the Richmond ones are ok

i use them to make veggie stuffing balls which I have instead of meat or the Linda McCarty red onion ones go ok with a roast

IsItSnowing · 20/12/2025 17:20

You're not being unreasonable if that's what you want.
There are better meat free option though.
This is an easy nut roast recipe which doesn't take too long

or you can buy ready made ones in Tesco and probably other supermarkets.

Sainsbury's do some great vegetarian sausages in their fridge aisles.

You are a grown adult. You are allowed to have anything you want to eat for dinner.

TheChosenTwo · 20/12/2025 17:51

We have a veggie joining us for Christmas dinner who has requested veggie sausages, they eat a really limited diet and has a lot of anxiety about eating around others so veggie sausages is what they shall have.
The rest of us will be tucking into beef and a gammon but it’s Christmas - eat what you want!

ChocolateSqueezyyogurts · 20/12/2025 18:09

Richmond do a lovely sage and onion veggie sausage. Ill do turkey for everyone else but I cant be bothered buying something big just for me. Ill have everything else just with the veggie sausage instead.

fiorentina · 20/12/2025 18:23

I do this. I find all the sides are more than enough. All veggies are suitable for vegetarians anyway, I don’t cook them in beef fat etc.

MasterBeth · 20/12/2025 18:27

Yes, if you want an ordinary, joyless Tuesday evening workweek meal on Christmas Day, knock yourself out with your veggie sausages.

It's a bit fricking grim, though.

Waitrose do a nice one.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 20/12/2025 19:13

I was just thinking that I’d prefer a jacket potatoe with cheese for Xmas dinner. Used to love roasts, still do but can’t see the fuss over them for Xmas day. Have what you want.

elevenpiperspiping · 20/12/2025 19:40

@IsItSnowingwould a good peanut butter be ok in place of cashew butter do you think?
