Aibu to be upset that my step Dad recieved a letter addressed to him, with a parking fine. The parking fine is from when I was driving his car and parked in a disability space. I am appealing the fine because I have a valid blue badge and I'm sure I could of parked in that space.
I will wait to see what they say.
The main thing I am upset with is my step Dad has not mentioned this fine so that I could sort it out. He hasn't done anything about the fine either.
I said to him why have you not mentioned about this letter and parking fine. You have had that letter for 3 days and I have been at your house every single day, we have talked to each other you come on a dog walk with me we were talking for an hour and yet you have kept this from me, which could of resulted in a bigger fine.
He said you are busy doing your own thing and not talking to me 😐 . Aibu to be upset and confused 😕.

Considering it’s still in time and you are sorting it, I would let this go. Just say to him, do let me know if this ever happens again as the sooner you do, the easier for me to sort.

Then let it go.

Were you displaying your blue badge? Just owning one doesn't count, you have to clearly display it at the time of parking.

MeDadMeDad · 20/12/2025 15:45

@Bikergran yes my blue badge was displayed. I have appealed it.

Poor man. Stop being so unpleasant. You sound like you’re looking for conflict.

PennyLaneisinmyheartandmysoul · 20/12/2025 15:56

Why does it say you got a fine then?

HeddaGarbled · 20/12/2025 15:58

Oh well, he’s letting you use his car so he can’t be all bad.

CoastalCalm · 20/12/2025 15:59

Was it at a hospital by any chance ? Many hospitals require you to contact security to register car and the blue badge is not sufficient - I would check if that is the case here. Or is it perhaps that the fine was for not paying to park rather than the fact it was a disabled bay as it’s not free in many private car parks

didgeridid · 20/12/2025 16:03

I think you are slightly exaggerating the issue here. As soon as you appeal it freezes the process. He only had the letter 3 days.

Private property has different parking rules to council owned land. You need to read the parking signs before parking. Once parked, you have agreed to their rules. Although you have appealed, you are likely going to have to pay it.

Use it as a life lesson and make sure you know the rules before parking next time

Slothey · 20/12/2025 19:02

I was expecting you to say that you’d missed the deadline for appealing or incurred an extra charge or something.

Three days is nothing. Chill.

arethereanyleftatall · 20/12/2025 19:05

I thought the fine was upped after 2 weeks, not 3 days?
how did you find out about it?
is he right that you haven’t been speaking to him?
