Christmas board game recommendations

What christmas board games do you play? Im looking for a last minute purchase that we can all play and laugh through - ages 65, 58, 38, 32 and 11!!

We like: Colourbrain, Simpsons Monopoly, Game of Fame, Exploding kittens and Obama Llama (although that one's not so easy for the 11 Yr old)

Im considering Herd Mentality, Sounds Fishy or something like that?

Herd Mentality, definitely!

parietal · 19/12/2025 15:47

I like Carcassone as a pretty chilled game for all ages

rosierosierosie · 19/12/2025 16:01

Chameleon and Just One are good, Herd Mentality, Love Letter (card game) is amazing - takes a bit to learn it but well worth it

samlovesdilys · 19/12/2025 19:35

We love the race around the world board game

SpanielLover2023 · 19/12/2025 19:36

Flip 7, its a card game.

Holymotherforkingshirtballs · 19/12/2025 19:38

Taco, cat, goat, cheese, pizza!

FourEyesGood · 19/12/2025 19:52

Herd Mentality is really popular in our house - especially when there are more players (e.g. extended family). I’ve just bought the Christmas expansion pack - which has festive questions and a festive cow - to play at next week’s big family gathering.

executrixnightmare · 19/12/2025 19:57

Sounds fishy is hilarious. Easy to play and such good fun. Also Mexican train is good

golemmings · 19/12/2025 21:19

With my grown up friends I play wingspan.

My kids love just one. They are teens and really love finding a less than sober adult to play with to increase the hilarity and randomness
We've got quoridor pacman for Christmas. Next week I can tell you how good it is.

Iloveagoodnap · 19/12/2025 21:40

I agree with Taco, Goat, Cheese, Pizza

Bayroot1 · 19/12/2025 21:49

@Hufflemuff you saved me starting a thread. Herd mentality sounds good I'm getting that.

Bayroot1 · 19/12/2025 21:51

Dh is usually resistant to board games so I'll wrap it for him 🤣 Sound like it'll be good to play with dgcs 9 and 11 too?

Hufflemuff · 20/12/2025 08:06

Thanks everyone! Sorry I didnt reply - I was really dim and couldn't see/locate the thread!

Ill get Herd Mentality then and also look at the others you suggested

Board gamer! Of those suggested above - are any particularly good for two people? Only DH and I for Christmas. Some games really benefit from having more than 2 players.

Sausagenbacon · 20/12/2025 08:18

Again, Taco, cat, goat, cheese, pizza!

UninitendedShark · 20/12/2025 08:19

Our go to game is UNO and last year we got UNO extreme. We also play ‘big money’ bingo. You win a chocolate from the tin for a line or 50p for a house and the winner with the most 50 pences is described as being obscenely rich/ money bags/ wealthy at every opportunity for as long as we remember to. My kids like to play monopoly but then it descends into chaos and conflict. I like ludo but there’s too many of us.

Screenager · 20/12/2025 08:25

We love monopoly deal… each games’s around 10-15 minutes

Uno is ok for 2. Card games? Backgammon.

A lot of good board games have modified versions which are designed for 2 players, e.g., 7 Wonders Duel, Codenames Duet, The Fox in the Forest, Ticket to Ride. You can also try cooperative games with 2 player modes, such as Forbidden Island, Pandemic, Ghost Fighting Treasure Hunters, the EXIT and Unlock series. There are lots of good card-based games for 2 people, too, such as Sushi Go. I find most good board games can be played with just two people, so you will have plenty to choose from.

Taco, cat, goat, cheese, pizza!

This ☝️☝️☝️. Sounds Fishy is good but Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza is hysterical (I’m a lot less fond of the flipped version). Skulls is good for very short simple games. From the classics I like Pandemic and Cluedo.

Crochetandtea · 20/12/2025 13:17

Genius square is good . Is it technically a board game if only two can play at a time? Also rubix race.

Lilyhatesjaz · 20/12/2025 15:38

Rumicub is always our favorite

OttersMayHaveShifted · 20/12/2025 15:39

Azul. And definitely Herd Mentality.

Trainstrike · 20/12/2025 15:41

Agree with Herd Mentality and Taco Cat etc., also suggest Six Second Scribbles and Outsmarted.

Hufflemuff · 21/12/2025 21:34

I got Herd Mentality and Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza... both were on offer on amazon luckily! Thank you guys xxx
