To think this is bad customer service?

Had a parcel seemingly delivered. I haven’t got it, neighbours don’t and there’s no photo to show where it’s been left.

I contacted the company and they said I need to raise it with the courier company myself, and then forward on the investigation outcome to them.

Aibu to think this is ridiculous? Surely they should conduct the investigation themselves.

This is pretty standard although crap and annoying yes.

Your contract is with the company you ordered from, not the courier. The company you bought the goods from have a contract with the courier and therefore it is their responsibility to follow up with them. Look up your rights and quote them.

Thats not been my standard experience. It’s for the company to ensure my goods are delivered to me. If they aren’t delivered surely it’s not on me to go do an investigation with the courier.
