to ask how to safely and effectively clean applicator

Hi, not a particularly pleasant subject.
ive had Estriol cream prescribed to me, the problem I have, is there’s many doses in the tube of cream, but only one applicator.
How do I thoroughly clean and dry it, if I have neither a washing machine or dishwasher?
How do others clean and dry it so that it feels safe to reuse in the intimate area?
obviously no bleach.
Or do I ask my pharmacy for “spare” applicators?

Thank you

For the first tube, sink and the radiator.

After that, keep hold of the applicators from each tube.

Run it under the hot tap until it's clean. Your intimate area isn't dirty or infected, there's no huge cleaning needed.

Sonolanona · 17/12/2025 10:50

I just run under the hot tap... no issues.

MerryKissmass · 17/12/2025 17:55

Thanks to those suggesting to run hot tap over it.
i guess it sounds crazy, but for a while, I won’t have access (thus no wash machine or dishwasher) to a running hot tap.
So, any other solution suggestions?

Boil a kettle. Keep a flask of boiled water in the bathroom.

Boil the kettle?

Obv I’d start with a boiled kettle 🤷‍♀️

id like to know hot the water can be, I don’t want to melt or even warp the applicator.
Also, what kind of soap
dishwash liquid
handwashing soap
laundry liquid
apart from bleach, anything else that’s tried and trusted.

I’d wash it in hand hot water with hand soap. And let it dry.

Yep this is how I wash mine.

Hankunamatata · 17/12/2025 18:31

Cold water sterilising fluid/tablets?

AudiobookListener · 17/12/2025 18:32

Hand hot water and bar of hand soap. I think it says no detergents somewhere in the leaflet.

Namenamchange · 17/12/2025 18:37

They do this as a pessary which is much easier and less messy to use.

AccidentallyOnTrend · 17/12/2025 18:40

This is my specialist subject! I take mine apart and put it through the dishwasher then rinse it and leave it to dry. Works a treat.

Wow, that suggestion sounds ideal, I’ll contact my GP and ask if it’s ok for me to swap.
Thank you. 🙏🏻

Sounds great IF a dishwasher was available to use 🤦‍♀️

I'm sorry, it sounds like you are in a difficult situation for a time. I think you could just use your finger instead of an applicator and then you just have to wash your hands like you would any other time.

HopSpringsEternal · 18/12/2025 00:01

I e used it for several years and do a quick wipe with a loo roll. Never had an issue. Vaginas are quite good at cleaning themselves.

MerryKissmass · 18/12/2025 01:49

Thanks everyone, I’m gonna investigate the pessary version.
Seasons greetings 🎄

Or you could buy disposable applicators. Twenty quid for a pack of sixty on Amazon. Sucks having to spend money but here we are. Those reusable ones are impossible to clean and yeah a vagina is a clean environment but a manky bit of plastic with stale water and soap residue hanging around on it is a one way ticket to Thrushville via BV Town.

Oh Upholstery !!! I love the way you express yourself 🤣
It’s a bloomin’ pain in the proverbial, to say the least.
At least you made me smile, and at half seven on a cold winter’s morning, I’m grateful 🙏🏻 for the wry humour.
