Winter flu scare and newborn

Hi, the news is freaking me out a bit with this flu scare. I’ve had my flu vaccine in pregnancy and my son is on mixed feeding of breast and formula. My son is five weeks old.

Im due to meet my friend today at the carvery for lunch for two hours. My sister has just called me as she’s out shopping and said literally a lot of people out are coughing and spluttering everywhere.
Would you take your 5 week old out to lunch in this flu crisis? Or am I am better off staying at home!

Yanbu. I'd deliveroo it and meet your friend at home.

I've just had flu and was on the train yesterday- lots of people coughing. Chances are you'll get nothing but the NHS doctors strike and the timing worries me.

I’ve got a baby similar age to yours. I’m wearing a mask to the hairdresser tomrorow and avoiding a lot of unnecessary contact right now :(

Honestly, I'd stay home (and I'm usually quite relaxed about germs). It's utterly rampant round here.

Stay home. Protect your little baby.

The trouble with seeing anyone is that even people who don't symptomatic can pass it. Most people live with a school aged child, or work/socialise with people who have one, so it's very hard to say it's completely safe to meet anyone, as schools seem full of it, Do what you want to do, and offer Facetime/brief outdoor meeting if you prefer, If anyone gets upset, politely say you're having the same rules for everyone, for your baby's sake-you're not favouring anyone in particular.
