I know that a number of local shops have had their right to sell jellycat revoked recently, seemingly just so that jelly cat can make more money. I found today that another Indy retailer had had their same jellycat treatment. Speaking to the owner they’ve been treated disgustingly by Jellycat, and as such in all conscience I can no longer buy such an unethical product. So I’m looking for recommendations for a good quality, UK made soft toy manufacturer that treats its stockists and suppliers ethically. Tips gratefully received!

Meant to say ‘Jellycat’ in the heading!

I'm not sure how they treat their stockists and suppliers, but I LOVE Kenji. There are specific Kenji stores all over the UK but you can also find their soft toys in HMV (and other places as well, but I only go to HMV to buy them)

Not UK made (although neither are Jellycats) but I do like Living Nature soft toys. The company is based in Scotland but they are manufactured overseas; they do use recycled materials though, and I think they are good quality. DS has a few, I might get myself the Highland Cow...

I can highly recommend the Living Nature Highland cow. I got DS the one that moos when you squeeze a front hoof, and 6 or 7 years on, he is a firm favourite still.

For the same reasons as you, I’ve bought my daughter some adorable soft toys from Mon Ami - similar vibe to Jellycat. I’m really impressed with them and glad to not be supporting Jellycat (sadly).

Palm pals are v cute and a fraction of the price

I got my daughter a highland cow hug a lump. It looks adorable.

I second palm pals also. Cheap and well made and many characters similar to jellycat. Bumbumz are another fab one to look out for.

I went to a local retailer to buy a jellycat rabbit for DD who is expecting DGC - thankfully I bought a steiff equivalent instead
I think jellycat are going to cut their own throats by the way they treat small retailers
My local garden centre with big gift section has recently stopped dealing with them
