Yesterday I was run over.
im injured and in hospital.

AIBU to ask you recommend an audiobook/podcast to cheer me up?

Preferably not Christmas cheesy stuff.

I like Marian Keyes, Jonathan Harvey, Liane Moriarty etc. Listen to The Rest Is Entertainment podcast.
Something cheering and smart too.

Can’t watch tv. Hospital WiFi is bad and do not have full sight.

It is absolute filth, so be warned, but if you like that kind of thing, “Dear Joan and Jericha” is hilarious.
Get well soon. I hope you aren’t in pain and are being well looked-after xxx

The Marian Keyes and Tara Flynn podcasts " Now you're asking"

Halfblindbunny · 13/12/2025 19:29

Parenting Hell podcast by Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe is funny. I also enjoyed Richard Osman's audio books. Thursday murder club is a lot better as a book then the TV movie.

The housemaid
Verity

Lighthearted laugh out loud option (if it’s your thing) - My Mum Wrote A Porno

True Crime option - My Favourite Murder or Casefile

Or download Audible and get a free trial and download any book you have been meaning to read to listen to (always check the sample first - some people have ridiculous reading voices!)

Lucy Parker, Misdirected.

James Acaster's Classic Scrapes is really funny, they're all real life short stories of things that have happened to him. Really light and fun

HoskinsChoice · 13/12/2025 20:38

The 'Off Menu' podcast is brilliant. Find the live episodes, they are particularly good. It's about good food though which might be distressing if you're eating hospital food! 🤣

The Zoe Ball & Jo Whiley podcast is good too. Not sure how old you are, I suspect it might appeal to 50ish+ women.

blankcanvas3 · 13/12/2025 20:41

Second vote for Parenting Hell

SingingSands · 13/12/2025 20:50

I like Cabin Pressure - brilliantly written, laugh out loud funny and performed brilliantly. So sorry to hear you were run over!

13RidgmontRoad · 13/12/2025 21:15

Just here to wish you well OP.

I quite like 40ish, if you're that kind of age.

Scoutingforducks · 13/12/2025 21:25

Second Cabin Pressure, think you can get that on Audible. The Bob Mortimer books are quite funny, I assume there are audiobook versions.

Sorry to hear you’re in pain. Get well soon.

Thank you everyone, sorry for the delayed reply.

They allowed me home for two days yesterday, on condition that I go back tomorrow.
It has been lovely but I’ve done nothing and I’m knackered.

The accident happened while I was on the pavement, it was a completely empty street. I’d stepped out to get some salad leaves.

It’s a 20 MPH zone.
I could hear this screeching of tyres from round the nearby streets and instinctively stepped nearer to a shop which I know has CCTV and lighting.
He took the corner too wide, doing over 60 MPH.
Mounted the pavement and ploughed into the shop window, I was caught by the edge of the car and thrown into the shop through broken glass, splintered wood and metal.

I’m particularly sad that his passenger was killed immediately.
The driver was trapped in the car and went/will go straight from hospital to prison. He was coked up.
This is everything the Police told me.

This is probably not the thread for the story though I still can’t believe it happened.

Thank you for the recommendations. I have also really been enjoying the Private Eye podcast.

If anyone thinks of any funny audible titles please let me know.

Read Jeeves and Wooster - sunshine and happiness in book form, and very funny.
