If only that was the case. There are plenty of people that purposely target reasonable OPs for sport, to see if they can rile them enough to get a response and then kick them for that.

I don't agree. I have been here for twenty years under different usernames and MN has supported me through infertility, pregnancy, motherhood, divorce, work, single parenthood and now perimenopause.

Yes there are bunfights, trolls, posters in an exceptionally bad mood, bots, AI, disagreements etc. but the good far outweighs the bad. So much good.

Because I wanted to have a discussion and hear people's views? I just disregard or skim/skip over anything that seems irrelevant, unnecessarily argumentative, or unproductive. (You can also report any reply if you think it violates the TOU). There are almost always enough worthwhile responses to make the process useful if the question seems sincere and is phrased coherently.

The solution to “vile” is to ignore those posts, report if necessary, and continue the conversation with those people who are posting sensibly.

Been here 20 years. There have always been posters like you. Yes some people are arseholes but there are a bigger majority of posters who make Mumsnet a safe place, and for whom it is life changing and life saving. Oh, not to mention the fluffy and funny threads which are honestly brilliant (and no I don’t mean those like penis beaker)
