What the hell is going on with me - post viral?

I had a nasty virus a few weeks back - don’t think it was flu as I’ve felt much much worse when I’ve had flu in the past.

Symptoms were:
• Extremely painful sinuses and throbbing headache
• Constant blocked nose congestion
• Blowing out thick mucous (sorry if tmi)
• Very sore throat overnight - I had to get up in the night and use difflam throat spray.
• Chills on and off but no fever
• Tiredness

Now three weeks later, I’m still bunged up and needing to blow my nose regularly but I’m also so so tired. No matter how much I sleep. Today my eyes are so sore, like I haven’t slept, my legs feel all wobbly and heavy. It’s horrendous.

I take vitamin D3 and K2 spray, vitamin B complete spray, iron spray (all the same brand) and I take magnesium glycinate and have been upping my vitamin C too.

I’ve had something similar for weeks. More of a cold than flu, I was never off sick with it but worked from
home rather than in the office. I’m still having sinus issues and ears blocked 6 weeks on from when it first started. Never had anything quite like it. Tested negative for Covid but tests were quite old so might not have picked up recent strains?

Sounds like post viral fatigue. Can take a while to feel better. All you can do is try and get extra rest. Eat healthily and don’t overdo it. It’s rotten. I’ve been there. Still not 100 %.

I had this after Covid - was never that ill with it but had blocked ears for weeks, intense fatigue. I’d get better then worse.

It’s not something to mess about with. If it was Covid then Long Covid is a possibility.

I've had flu recently but also I do remember in the last 5 years or so having a period where for no reason I'm just exhausted for about 6 weeks, falling asleep in the afternoons etc.

mydogisanidiott · 11/12/2025 21:39

I had this from April to November I felt bloody dreadful. I’m sorry you have this. Post viral fatigue is real and awful. I could have curled up on the floor or laid in bed and cried and I did both on many occasions. I thought what if this is the rest of my life. I’m fine now . It was scary. Ruined my whole year.

PersephoneParlormaid · 11/12/2025 21:41

I’d say post viral fatigue too, it’s like wading through treacle. Eat well, lots of protein and veg, and rest.

Delatron · 11/12/2025 21:59

I think people underestimate or misunderstand post viral fatigue. It doesn’t sound that bad and Doctors are like ‘oh it’s post viral fatigue - it takes a while to get better’

I had to cut my work hours by half. I had to get an extra dog walker. It can take months or longer to get back to where you were.

Hopefully you will be better soon but rest is so important.

Just over this same virus and as soon as the cold started to go, I got a horribly ticklish cough for five days or so. Now left with sooooo much mucus, I’m coughing all day long and can feel it in my nose too. In the mornnng, the first few hours feel like I’ve bee swimming and got water up my nose.

Its awful!

Sounds like post viral fatigue,it’s horrible and I sympathise.
My DD is a doctor, the over the counter Covid tests don’t pick up the current strain, the ones they use in hospitals do. She had very similar symptoms to you OP, and the after effects went on for a month or so. It was only when she went to work after testing negative from an over the counter test that her consultant said she looked poorly and insisted that she take a hospital test, and she was positive, so went home. I caught it off her and was poorly for weeks, crippling fatigue and muscle aches.
hope you all who are suffering feel better soon. Lots of rest, stay hydrated and don’t hesitate to go to GP if you think you have a secondary infection.Flowers

Please, please rest up and allow yourself to recover properly. You really don't want it to develop into ME/CFS.

BarilynBordeaux · 11/12/2025 23:15

Had the same symptoms and it was Covid, absolutely knocked me out for for two weeks and I’m still tired! It is definitely post viral fatigue.

Delatron · 12/12/2025 09:01

Covid seems to be a bugger for causing lengthy post viral symptoms.

Chemenger · 12/12/2025 09:05

I tested positive for Covid with those symptoms. That was about two and a half weeks ago. Today is the first day that I have woken up feeling noticeably better. Still tired but not feeling like I’m wading through treacle.
