Will you help me find some gym clothes...?

Just joined a new gym and going quite often and also dropping my child into kids club then stopping after together for a swim, then sitting at a table whilst she plays with other kids in a play area. Generally getting home quite late. I feel tatty in old leggings and a t shirt and can't figure out what to get. I probably want to arrive and leave in some decent quality leggings, tops and a hoody.

Then something for the working out part of it. Some indoor and some outdoor as may also play tennis. I know this is less complicated than I'm making it sound but I have fibromyalgia so I get brain fog.

The other thing is I will hopefully lose some weight and then will have to replace everything, so I'm thinking maybe just get a few workout bits off vinted for now? I home educated and single mum so don't have much time to look around the shops and can't seem to figure out where sells the nice leggings which you can wear with a t shirt and not have a camel toe. I've also lived abroad for a period so lost track of who sells the good stuff which isn't too pricey.

Anyway thanks for listening to my ted talk, would appreciate all help :D

I really like sweaty Betty, I’ve bought four pairs from vinted for less than a tenner each. So far I’m really impressed with the quality and the fabric, and just want to wear them all the time! I think the plain designs are nice enough to wear day to day or on a dog walk, but some of the more patterned vibrant ones are probably ones I’d only wear for the gym!
I wear the XL but bought a L pair as well by mistake and they fit me as well so there’s a bit of flexibility on the sizes.

they have some really nice other ranges as well, there’s something about the cut of the tops that just looks so much better than my old matalan t shirts!

honestly I’d suggest buying better quality but second hand until you get a feel for what you’d like!

Gymshark is great
Primark also good - shorts for working out and then stick tracksuit bottoms and matching top over the top

Sweatty betty - £90 each
Primark - £15 total
Next has lots of options of both branded and own brand

Welikebeingcosy · 11/12/2025 20:05

Thanks guys I'll look on vinted for sweaty Betty. Might go for a Primark hoodie until I lose weight.

I still need to find some nice soft leggings for relaxing and travelling to and from, which aren't exercise leggings if you know what I mean. Ones you can wear with a t shirt and don't look like you forgot your shorts.

I like Sweaty Betty. The Halara leggings are good and also HappyStride.

I'm not sure there is a need for separate leggings for travel and exercise. Exercise leggings are very nice nowadays, I basically live in them unless I am socialising. I rather like gymshark.

Another vote for Sweaty Betty leggings from vinted and you absolutely don't need others for travelling in, they look great. If you do want more 'relaxing' leggings I like Lovall.

WinterStrls · 12/12/2025 08:55

Gym shark do good bra tops my dd trains 5d a week lots of the older teens wear it. She also like Abyl shorts but she’s a petite size 6-8.
Ive got some really nice shaped yoga trousers from Uniqlo I’m in my 50s they look good for casual wear but I wouldn’t train in them. They have flared legs nice comfy waist band.

ViolaChomp · 12/12/2025 08:57

I got some Shein gym leggings and they're the best I've ever had. Size 20 and the size 20 is true to size

ChristmasIsAMindset · 12/12/2025 09:04

My primark leggings have done me 10 years now and are my go to. Soft, seamless, thin and cool but not see through.

Have a think about if you need a pocket.

And buy leggings without a front seam to avoid camel toe.

And go high waisted with a wide waistband for a flattering fit.

MsMartini · 12/12/2025 09:07

Well done on your new habit 😀. I buy nearly new or new SB on vinted too - I am short (5ft3) and the 7/8 ones do me fine as well. But always always with side pockets for a phone and a tissue (they have invented some new lines that don't have side pockets so be careful if that matters to you).

I wear them all day on gym days as pp have said, they look fine I think, but if it is cold I stick a pair of tracksuit bottoms over for park etc.

harriethoyle · 12/12/2025 09:09

I swear by Adanola leggings- don’t roll down or bag and wash very well. I’m a size 10 and take a small.

It's not just travelling, it's hanging round in the clubhouse whilst my daughter plays and I don't want to sit in my sweat! 😅

Thanks! It's not really a new habit, I've always been active. But unfortunately I'm a single mum and there hasn't been any gyms with a kids club near me until this month, so it's more just getting back into what is normal for me, which is a relief at last.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I've ordered a bundle of hoodies and some tracksuit bottoms in different sizes on vinted- some for now, and some for when I get back to my normal size. Still after some good leggings.

The leggings weren't workout ones I wanted- I want some to wear in the club lounge after exercising whilst my daughter plays, but I can't seem to find any which are warm enough which don't look like I'm wearing tights. I don't like the lycra ones, just would like some soft cotton ones. Never really got on with the primark ones as they seem to crinkle on my legs and fall down around the crotch. I have a bigger bum in proportion to my thighs, so I can't go a size smaller.

Have a look at kitround.com - mostly preloved sports kit but also some new stuff at great prices! All premium sports brands too.

Lovall looks perfect thank you- the curvy range looks good for my bum!

Vinted is a great place to start. If you have a decathlon pop in there too, you can obviously order online but their sizes can be a bit variable.

Redpeach · 12/12/2025 13:30

Stay away from scrunch bum leggings

Britpopbaby · 12/12/2025 13:39

The gym gear will be hitting the charity shop rails very soon so I would pop into your local ones and see if you can find something. I’ve found Good Move by M&S as well as Lululemon.

Timebudda · 12/12/2025 13:39

T-shirt and leggings.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/12/2025 13:52

There’s a lot of Sweaty Betty on Brand Alley at the moment.

Defiantly41 · 12/12/2025 13:54

M&S GoodMove own brand range is also very good, and reasonably priced for the quality

Jackiepumpkinhead · 12/12/2025 15:39

I love Aybl and I know it may sound silly but I feel great when I’m wearing a nice gym outfit. They do excellent sales but I’ve recently bought some really good second hand sets from Vinted.

pforpig · 12/12/2025 15:40

GymShark

exhaustedbeinghappy · 12/12/2025 15:41

CRZ Yoga, a Lululemon dupe that I think is actually better. Amazon have a good range online
