Out of date ham - help!

Ds came home from school and ate two slices of packaged supermarket ham that went out of date on the 2nd! I only left it in the fridge to give to the dog tonight. He is 12 and seems fine at the moment but only ate it about an hour ago. Is he likely to get sick from this?

If it smelled all right and tasted all right then he will probably be fine, OP. I've just eaten bacon that went out of date on 28 November, it was perfectly all right.

I remember the time eldest DD found a pack of sausages at the back of the fridge that had been forgotten about, cooked and ate them, and they were several weeks out of date. She's still with us. Food doesn't immediately turn as the date comes around, it's put there for safety, it's not an absolute.

Yes this is what I’m trying to tell myself. I did smell it this morning and it didn’t smell off. He said it tasted fine. But I’m emetophobic and very worried about the possibility of illness and sick!

There are so many preservatives in ham, he’ll be fine. 🙂

I'm emetophobic myself and I STILL ate the two week out of date bacon because I know that bacon (like ham) is stuffed with preservatives. It's practically nylon, it keeps so long. Honestly, OP, I wouldn't worry at all. Your ham was only a week past its date and that's nothing in the world of cured meats.

Thank you. No ill effects 6 hours later so hopefully all fine.

Likewise. Some 12 hours post bacon ingestion and I'm off out for a run. Glad it all worked out for you.
