To ask for a refund for a makeup product?

I bought two lip stains from a well known cosmetics company that sells on the TikTok shop and in Boots. They arrived on Friday night so I tried them out. Immediately my lips burned, went numb and started to tingle. Two days on and my lips are still red and dry, when usually they’re never dry.

AIBU to approach the company and ask for a refund?

I’d want a refund as a minimum.

It just feels a little cheeky because I’ve used both of them, but my lips are still so sore two days on!

Of course you take them back for a refund! Why wouldn’t you?

MrsToothyBitch · 08/12/2025 07:38

I'd ask for a refund. You obviously can't continue to use them and the reaction they caused is unpleasant.

They'll be written off, the same way clothing would be if you took something back with an obvious fault.

I’ve never tried to return cosmetics I’ve used before, it’s only ever been brand new ones

Ask for a refund and report to trading standards.

I’m not going to report them, it’s probably just my lips being sensitive

If you bought from TikTok they may well be fake hence why you have had a reaction. If you bought from Boots or company direct no harm in asking for a refund but tbh I don’t think you’ll get anywhere. They could have just tweaked the formula hence why you’ve had a reaction.

I bought from the verified wonderskin TikTok so I doubt they’re fake, but I’ve DMed them on instagram

Is there anything in them you know you are allergic too , have you checked the ingredients. Whether you ask for a refund or not. You need to let them know so that they can deal with a possible product in there that causes this reaction

As far as I’m aware I don’t have any allergies, I’ve never reacted to any lip products etc before

I knew it would be Wonderskin. They dry my lips out too.

I only ask because although a food product, my husband went in to anaphylactic shock recently and was hospitalized having eaten an meal from a well known supermarket he had eaten many times before, they had changed something in the ingredients which caused this reaction. He had no known allergies either . The supermarket was very grateful to be informed as they said this allowed them to look in to it further

I’m just not sure what’s wrong with them to do this! My lips feel a little numb even now
