Why has Kevin Sinfield not been Knighted?

If you don’t know who he is and what he has done - and is still doing to raise multi millions of pounds for MND research please google and find out.
How has this man not been Knighted? So many people who have done so much less and some who have done bugger all have received the honour.
I just don’t understand it.

Some people don’t want to have spurious recognition for their work. Not everyone is David Beckham dying to put ‘Sir’ on his stationery. I think the honours system is a joke and wouldn’t want any part of it.

He has an MBE, OBE and CBE. It’s likely to come with time.

TigerRag · 04/12/2025 18:53

He has an MBE. ?

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 04/12/2025 18:54

He’s an absolute legend 🙌🙌

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 04/12/2025 18:55

The honours system has become a joke. C-list tv presenters, and every single sportsperson getting one has cheapened them to the point of irrelevance.

Dolamroth · 04/12/2025 18:56

He is amazing. It was so sad this morning hearing about the young boy who died from MND. I think he was only 14.

BamberGirl · 04/12/2025 18:59

He is incredible!

KnewYearKnewMe · 04/12/2025 19:00

We have this conversation all the time, OP.

its beyond belief.

mutinyonthetwix · 04/12/2025 19:06

I am very dubious of the honours system but a knighthood should really be the culmination of an exceptional life and career rather than a prize for reaching a certain number of contribution points. Sinfield is 45 and still very much doing good things and probably has a great many years of doing good things in his locker.

I so agree with the opening poster. While I'm not a fan of the honours system, while it exists I believe it should honour people like Kevin S.

apart from what he's done for MND charities (so very very much) he seems like a fantastic role model for young men and boys. The clip of the first Leeds marathon which was when his mate Rob Burrows was alive will stay with me. When he picks him up and kisses Robs cheek as they crossed the finishing line showed so much tenderness and love.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 12/06/2026 08:07

Looks like he has finally got it

Fernie6491 · 12/06/2026 11:15

Yes, so pleased for him, so well-deserved. I did read that they can't bestow another honour until a certain amount of time has passed, so that explains why it's been a while. Anyway, arise Sir Kev!

murasaki · 12/06/2026 11:16

Oh brilliant news.

hahabahbag · 12/06/2026 11:20

In this case he has been recognised but remember people up and down the country are doing similarly work and they are not known at all because they haven’t seeked publicity. Also many very prominent people do not receive a knighthood until the end of their careers and quite frankly lives. I’d like to see an end to awards for winning a medal for starters, only issuing sports honours after their career and subject to other aspects of good work

ACynicalDad · 12/06/2026 11:25

Good, it's normal that there's something like 3 years between honours, so they may have been waiting for time to elapse.

I think it’s for his charity work and creating awareness for mnd and not his success as a sports star (although he probably deserves it for that anyway).
He has to seek publicity, that is that whole point of what he is doing for mnd - to create awareness and raise money
