Would you continue to see him if you found this out?

So I have found out that the guy I have been seeing got a suspended sentence for having sex with an under age girl many years ago. He was early 20s and she was 15. He claims he did not know her age and she looked a lot older. Would you continue to see him?

OP posts:

No.

Tootiredforthis23 · 03/12/2025 17:37

No I wouldn’t.

CharlotteSometimes1 · 03/12/2025 17:38

Absolutely not

TulipTuesday · 03/12/2025 17:39

God, no.

Izzywizzy85 · 03/12/2025 17:39

No I wouldn’t. I’ve never met a 15 year old who wasn’t very obviously 15, regardless of what she looked like. Huge red flag.

Owly11 · 03/12/2025 17:39

Nope not a chance in hell. He will be minimising the real story so you would be with a sex offender and a liar.

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/12/2025 17:40

No.

JudgeBread · 03/12/2025 17:40

Ew no, gross

Americano75 · 03/12/2025 17:40

God no.

Ilovecheeseyah · 03/12/2025 17:41

I believe you already know the answer in your heart. I sympathize this is a horrid thing for you to find out but you know you are strong enough to do the right thing. Sending you the POWER

Goditsmemargaret · 03/12/2025 17:41

Actually I might because I was the 15 year old in this scenario once. He was 24 and he absolutely did not realise, he thought I was 18 or 19. He was horrified when he realised and that was the end of us. I was heartbroken.

Upthenorth · 03/12/2025 17:41

Did he volunteer this information or did you find out another way?

It prompts a lot of questions from me but you would never know if he was telling the truth.

Jollyjoy · 03/12/2025 17:42

Absolutely no way.

Meteorite87 · 03/12/2025 17:42

No.

333FionaG · 03/12/2025 17:43

Absolutely not. It doesn't matter if she looked 25, a 15yo is a lot different in manner than a grown woman.

ChristmasBaileys · 03/12/2025 17:44

Having been in that situation (admittedly I was 16) I don't see why not.

To an extent it depends on how long ago this was, things were quite different in the 70s/80s. If you feel icky then don't. It's how you feel about it.

You’ve never met a 15 year old that couldn’t pass for 16, really?

bitterexwife · 03/12/2025 17:46

No, definitely not. I’d block him without explaining why, he will know why.

SunnySideDeepDown · 03/12/2025 17:46

Honestly I probably would. I was 15 when I dated a man in his early 20s. We got along well and he was kind and respectful- not like my next boyfriend who was my age and an utter twat.

If he was late 20s, I’d think it was wrong, but 15 and 22 (for example) isn’t that worrying to me.

CoralPombear · 03/12/2025 17:46

When I was 15 myself I thought a year or so was negligible. Now I have dc that age I realise how young and vulnerable they really are and also that as an adult woman, I can very clearly distinguish between teenagers and adults. As can most adult men.

SmoothOperatorCarlosSainz · 03/12/2025 17:47

Absolutely not

Ahfiddlesticks · 03/12/2025 18:14

Depends how long ago.

I'm 42 and if the bloke was my age or older then I wouldn't be so bothered as when I was 15, dating men in their 20s was pretty normal.

If he's younger than 36 though, I'd say definitely not.

Happyjoe · 03/12/2025 18:15

Having sex or being in a relationship? Having sex with a youngster as a one-off feels totally wrong in early 20's (taking 6-odd years, that is a lot when that young) or if in a relationship I can't believe he wasn't aware of her age.

So basically, no, feels wrong but I'm not the one having a relationship with him though. OP I presume you're not too keen either having posted here on MN? One thing though, kudos for him telling you.

Themagicfarawaytreeismyfav · 03/12/2025 18:16

I could have easily passed for 18 at 13 years old let alone 15. I also quite frequently lied about my age! So no i wouldn’t judge him on this if it was a one off that has never happened since.

Very much this.
