Offered a job interview then silence

On Monday I was offered a job interview and asked to confirm my availability. I emailed back straight away. Now on Wednesday and still no response to confirm dates/ times. AIBU to find this frustrating? Up to now they have always replied really quickly so it’s making me anxious!

Give them a chance op! 48 hours barely

Loloblue · 03/12/2025 13:07

dont think it's anything to stress about - they will probably be managing multiple schedules
it is nerve wracking though

FizzyBelt · 03/12/2025 13:10

I think I’m nervous because the first 2 interviews they came back to confirm date/ time within minutes. So this new silence feels new. I don’t want to chase the recruiter but I don’t want to be forgotten either.

I would drop them a line Thursday pm if asking any update re interview date

FizzyBelt · 03/12/2025 14:58

I will ask for an update tomorrow. I keep checking my phone and the longer I don’t get a reply the more anxious I become. It doesn’t help that this has happened to me a few weeks ago (offered an interview and then silence). I am starting to think there’s something wrong with me

I also have the email address of hiring manager from first interview. If I still don’t have a date or time from recruiter would it be wrong of me to contact them directly?

Very strange because I'm in exactly the same situation. Asked to send three available times, sent them, no response

🤔

Unfortunately this is quite common. Read about it a lot on LinkedIn. Lots of employers are ghosting candidates. Lots of roles are already filled with internal candidates but they pretend to offer interviews to externals to make it look like they did the right thing. Sometimes they’ll waste your time and make you actually do the interview, when they know who has the role already. It’s pathetic. Really tough market right now.

purplecorkheart · 03/12/2025 15:01

Probably, people trying to juggle their diaries. It is a busy time of year for many places with end of year reports/meetings etc.

Zanatdy · 03/12/2025 15:02

These things take time to sort out. No I wouldn’t chase as it’s been 48hrs and they will let you know when they are ready. It will probably annoy them if people are chasing so soon.

FizzyBelt · 03/12/2025 15:04

@Sartre it’s so upsetting. I’ve had 2 interviews and completed case studies already. I was so excited to get to the final round.

@canuckup how long have you been waiting? Hope they get back to you soon!

Did they offer times are just ask your availability?

It could be a case of trying to match up everyone's diaries to make sure availability works - and with it being cold and flu season someone could be off sick or something like that.

I would send a chase tomorrow and just see what they come back with.

canuckup · 03/12/2025 22:11

Since Friday last week @FizzyBelt

Bit frustrating really. But as a pp said, it's a tough market and they seem to really have the upper hand at the minute

. I am starting to think there’s something wrong with me

Of course there's nothing wrong with you!

They're being unprofesional. (I worked in HRM).

Just keep applying for other jobs, something will turn up.

Good luck!

I don't think they are being unprofessional - it's been less than 2 days. I think people are being far more impatient than they used to be, and are not being realistic with how long recruitment actually takes. There was a thread a few days ago - "I was told I'd hear early next week, but it's Monday morning now. Why are they ghosting me?" It takes time to agree dates. It takes time to review applications. It takes time to score interviews. Give people a chance before panicking FFS!

FizzyBelt · 04/12/2025 11:46

i just had an email from the hiring manager asking if I could interview in the beginning of January. Apparently diaries can’t coordinate before then. I’m pleased they have come back to me but not thrilled about having to wait a month! I will keep looking for other things I suppose
