Doctors appointment too far in advance?

My daughter came to me last night saying she has a lump. It was in her groin area you cant see it but you can very very clearly feel it. Feels around size of a bouncy ball. She said its not sore really maybe slightly if push it. After feeling i found there are 2 more next to it. There are none on other side.
I phoned doctors this morning and they gave me an appointment for 23rd December. I accepted but am now wondering if its a but far in advance. Should I push to be seen sooner? Also anyone had any experience with this kind of thing?

I had something that sounds a bit like this a few years ago and it turned out to be a femoral hernia. I went to the GP who sent me along to the hospital and in fact it was operated on that night. It may not be this at all (I'm not a Dr) but probably worth pushing to see someone sooner.

Thank you so much for your response. Hope you are well recovered now. Did you have pain?

No - it wasn't really painful, so I was a bit taken aback to be suddenly operated on! It was a pretty quick recovery. My DD1 was only 18 months at the time so I didn't have much time for sitting around!

I rang my GP surgery recently regarding a lump. I would have been happy with a routine appointment but the receptionist insisted it needed a same day appointment.

Your description is quite vague, so it would be difficult for anyone to say. I'm not a medic though, but have had several lumps and bumps in that area myself.

Obviously don't describe anything graphically, but is it in an area where it could be a swollen lymph gland? How old is she? Is she otherwise well?

Sorry. Shes 12. Otherwise we'll mostly she struggles with her chest since having pneumonia is the only thing. But other than that very healthy.
Its not visible but can feel it and its quite hard. It could be near lymph node its kind of in the v section on public bone if that makes sense. There's 3 hard lumps. About size of bouncy ball? Maybe swollen lymph nodes?

Sorry I can't help, but hopefully the further info might assist someone more in the know. I hope she recovers soon!

If in England, you could try 111 if you are worried that she should be seen sooner.

Has she got any infected/cut/eczema areas on lower limbs? Have you felt her neck & armpits for any lumps there? If she’s full of beans and her normal self, it’s unlikely to be anything - but if GP wants a blood test etc, she’ll get caught up in Xmas bank holidays if she’s not seen till 23/12, so I’d push for earlier on those grounds alone.

Chickencuddle · 02/12/2025 17:41

No cuts of anything. No lumps anywhere else

Got seen today. Being sent for blood tests and ultrasound within next two weeks. Glad I pushed to be seen. Really hoping will be ok. Probably nothing but feeling bit anxious
