I got something free from a vending machine today! Was I being unreasonable keeping it?

My workplace has a vending machine. When I walked past it today there was an item stuck and literally as I was looking it fell down. Nobody else was around so I helped myself. It's was only worth £2 but it really made my day.

What's the best thing that's happened to you today? Any small wins to report?

Also was I being unreasonable keeping it?

We have a machine at work that frequently vends 2 or 3 items at a time. There is an angry poster instructing people to place unpaid for items in a cardboard box next to the machine. The box is always empty…

Telekinesis is the purported ability to move or manipulate physical objects with the mind.

Try it again tomorrow to see if it’s a fluke or you can make things move with the power of your mind.

If you do have the power be careful not to tell anyone as a secret government department will be on your case to capture you and force you to work for them

I thought this was going to be one of those ridiculous threads where someone is wracked with guilt because they realise they've accidentally underpaid for their weekly shop at Tesco by 3.5p and are wondering whether to go back (a journey of 12 miles by three successive buses, natch) in order to repay it, or whether just to stay at home and self flagellate instead.

Enjoy your free drink/snack.

Yay, free stuff always tastes better!

In the last two weeks I've found two pound coins and a smiley pound-sized token in the gym locker locks. I didn't hand them in. However I used the token today and it got stuck. That'll learn me.

lolly427 · 25/11/2025 20:57

HEY that was mine. You owe me a twirl.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 25/11/2025 20:58

That is so naughty. That poster will be hunting you down. And apologies every thread i have posted on recently, last hour, has been deleted by Mumsnet!

Vendor wins are vendor wins, you cheeky monkey.

No snoozing and losing for you today!

outerspacepotato · 25/11/2025 21:20

How many times has a vending machine kept your money and the thing you tried to buy is still hanging there like an apple just out of reach?

The universe just gifted you. Don't turn the universe down.

LittleGreenDuck · 25/11/2025 21:21

You should go into the staff room and ask if anyone bought a drink that got stuck. Pay particular attention to anyone who has got changed during the day.

BigOrangeBaby · 25/11/2025 21:29

I can’t sleep until I know what it was.

Parsleyforme · 25/11/2025 21:37

My small win was that I was using a coin sorting machine and when I checked the rejected coin basket there was a 50p that the machine must have rejected for the previous user but it accepted it for me. I only collect coins 20p and under so thought I had about £5 with all the coppers. I was over the moon to get a voucher for £28!

Edit: just read that back.. I was over the moon to use a coin sorting machine… I’m only 30!

YesItsMe44 · 25/11/2025 22:34

Interesting, are you the person who managed to get the snack that was stuck in a vending machine? An earlier thread tells a story of someone's snack getting stuck and when she came back with change to try again she said her item was stolen.

Thedishonthecoffeetable · 25/11/2025 22:34

On Sunday I was charged for a 55p item twice. I know it was only 55p but...... I then carried on looking down the receipt to see I had only been charged for one 3.99 item and had bought 2. A small win for meSmile

If you work at a university and it was ginger beer, I'd like it back please.

On a positive note I made £1 from a car park machine where someone hadn't checked the reject slot. I thought I was reclaiming my 20p but it was actually £1.20.

On a not so positive note I was overcharged 40p at the chippy tonight, and didn't realise until later.

It's been an emotional rollercoaster of a day.

NormanSicily · 25/11/2025 23:23

We once went to a multi storey car park. Husband went to pay ( back in the days of cash) and the machine swallowed his money and no ticket came out. Was a bit peeved. Gave the return slot a poke as could see a coin jammed there and around £25 came out in pound coins. All rejected coins that had got jammed behind a stuck one. It paid for parking and our meal that evening. Happy days

JohnBullshit · 25/11/2025 23:34

I used to work at a visitor attraction where I was constantly under attack from punters who'd been robbed by bastard drinks machines. Absolutely nothing to do with me: supplied by some outside contractor now many miles away, but the bane of my life as the woman on the spot all the same. These things are the enemy of humankind, and any individual small win is a victory for all of us.

That’s disappointing

Busybeemumm · 26/11/2025 00:53

I was at a self checkout at a supermarket and someone had left a chocolate pouch of choc minstrels. I didn't hesitate putting it in with my shopping!
