Next Door Bins next to shared wall.

Hi, we live in an end with our front door on the right looking from road. The house next door is an inner house and they put their wheely bins just outside their garage - on left of their house looking from road.
They have started by putting them more to the left next to the shared wall (3ft high, just over 1 foot wide) so the green bin is right next to the wall and seems more visible when we walk up to our front door. We obviously preferred it when they had the bins a little away from the wall. I can see that it makes it a little easier to park their car when their is only one car in the drive as the bins aren't in line with the car
We don't know the neighbour well, just to say hello. Are we being too fussy? Should we say anything?

I would say so. I’m sorry. Could you attach some trellis to the wall and grow some plants up to shield your view maybe?

parakeet · 24/11/2025 13:00

Diagram please! But probably I'm afraid YABU if their bins are on their land.

BlackCatGoesHome · 24/11/2025 13:00

You are being extremely fussy.

snoopythebeagle · 24/11/2025 13:01

If you say anything you will look absolutely ridiculous.

GasPanic · 24/11/2025 13:01

I think they can put the bins anywhere they like on their property.

If you don't like the look of them you will need to shield your view from them.

SparkyBlue · 24/11/2025 13:01

no you can’t say anything about this they aren’t doing anything wrong

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 24/11/2025 13:01

If they are on their property, then you would be very unreasonable to ask the bins to be moved, much as it annoys you ( and would probably annoy me too)

Acafan · 24/11/2025 13:02

I also want a diagram. But as I understand it, your complaint is that you can see your neighbours' garden waste bin? If so, you are being massively fussy and unreasonable.

Pigeonpoodle · 24/11/2025 13:06

It sounds like the bins are on their property. If so, you can’t reasonably tell them to move them. If it bothers you, then it’s up to you to shield them from your sight by increasing the fence height, adding trellis or growing shrubs.

Livpool · 24/11/2025 13:07

You’re annoyed you can see their bin?! YABVU

Clobberdobber · 24/11/2025 13:11

Stressed out because you can see a bin? Omg I wish your problems were my problems 🤣

80smonster · 24/11/2025 13:27

Another vote for a diagram.

PatThePenguin · 24/11/2025 13:29

Oh yes.

PLEASE say something and come back and let us know how it went! 🤣🤣🤣

It sounds like the OP is wheelie annoyed 🤭

rainbowthunder · 24/11/2025 13:50

Thank you for the responses. I actually agree with what you are all saying, it's my partner who's not happy about it. I just wanted an unbiased opinion.
I think I have my answer!

He can see a bin when he walks up your path and doesn't like it?

Id be laughing at him and telling him with this level of sensitivity he should have bought a detached house away from any neighbours!

Can't afford to? Then he needs to put up and shut up!

Catpiece · 24/11/2025 14:09

Glad I don’t live next door to you. Petty nonsense

Kindling1970 · 24/11/2025 14:18

wow I feel sorry for your husband getting this annoyed about something so small

theemmadilemma · 24/11/2025 14:23

All their land right? If you were to knock my door and ask to me to change where I put my bins on my own property I'd probably laugh you off my doorstep.

The only thing I might reasonably listen to is a request to move it away from someone's window if was close in summer.

wantom · 24/11/2025 14:23

Easiest non confrontational solution is one that is used around here a lot in the terraced houses which have a garden to the front. Bins are up near the front doors against shared wall. Most people have put up a trellis on top of the shared wall, some with pots and climbers, others with false ivy or similar. Works a treat if you/partner are not keen on looking at next door's bins!

oviraptor21 · 24/11/2025 14:24

I should imagine it's smell as much as being unsightly that bothers DH. But as PP have said, put some screening in. Maybe something with a fragrance.

Same.
I can see all my neighbours bins and dont give a hoot.
