Inability to drink without slurping it

I think IABU but this noise gets on my fucking tits for no rational reason

DH and his darling offspring cannot drink liquid without slurping it. They do not tip the cup/glass up to their mouths properly, or they are walking around whilst drinking so they end up sucking in air/liquid making this huge, repetitive lip smacking noise. 14 hours I’ve spent with them so far today, and this relentless noise. If it’s not the slurping in a glass, it’s slurping with a straw. When you don’t tip the cup up enough so there is not enough to go up the straw

Am talking to DH this evening, mid chat he picks up a glass of water and proceeds to slurp though the whole drink noisily. I say ‘do you mind as I’m talking, it’s distracting can you tip the glass up more so the liquid is in contact with your mouth, is that ok?’ he looks bewildered.

Is it too much to ask

(yes probably)

How do you think ‘why isn’t the liquid going into my mouth I know I will suck on the air frantically rather than tip up the cup’

I couldn’t handle this constantly, OP. Have words with all of them.

My DH is the same and it drives me nuts! I usually end up going out of the room to drink my tea.
Funnily enough he never seems to do it when we’re sitting in a cafe 😡

Titasaducksarse · 22/11/2025 20:45

I had a colleague like this, thankfully we got on super well so I said 'sounds like you're enjoying that'! He laughed and wasn't offended but then carried on doing it to wind me up.

worstnotholiday · 22/11/2025 20:48

I’d have to LTB! The occasional slurp- fine. Continuous would leave me close to murder!

LividArse · 22/11/2025 20:51

Is there a chance you're perimenopausal?

I ask not because your DH is reasonable, but because he would be under the patio. It was buying two sets of Loops, a pair of noise cancelling headphones and a Snoozeband in six months that made me realise I needed HRT.

amusedbush · 22/11/2025 20:54

My DH does this with coffee and it fills me with rage. He holds the cup straight, leans in and sort of sucks up tiny sips because it’s too hot but he refuses to wait until it cools down 😒

SlurpyMcslurpson · 22/11/2025 20:54

I’m on HRT and didn’t realise the connection - I had to also ear plugs so that I don’t kill him in his sleep as well!

I've recently noticed DH slurping. I'm def peri. It's irritating me no end.

SlurpyMcslurpson · 22/11/2025 21:07

Welcome to the angry menopausal slurp hate club ✌️😂

It’s not peri. I’ve been annoyed for years now 🤣

DH has poor coordination and is extremely risk averse and susceptible to feeling things are burning. So I guess, not tipping much is less risky than over tipping. But it grinds my gears. He seems to have no idea.

SSRI · 22/11/2025 21:39

Oh no I think I might be a slurped with hot tea Blush

CynicalSunni · 23/11/2025 06:45

My brother does this 😑
I am glad i don't live with him anymore.
Every breakfast sitting at the table he would slurp up half a cup of tea and then an audible gulp because he took in too much.

Then it was onto the cereal. I have only known one person to slurp off a spoon.

allydoobs83 · 23/11/2025 07:03

Buy him a sippy cup and hide the other cups and glasses 🤣🤣🤣
