I had a scan at 13 weeks which I know is early. But baby in all the pictures seems to have a big gap under the nose? Im wondering if this could be cleft lip

Do you have a particular reason for worrying?
The sonographer will know, not us. Did they say anything at the time?

Repairing a cleft lip is generally straightforward and successful- I know several children who have no sign, no scarring. Try not to worry until you know you need to.

@PrizedPickledPopcorn its just the big gap under the nose in the photos and I was put on amoxicillin due to a uti. And that has studies showing it increases the chances of cleft lip. So maybe im jumping to conclusions. I just worried when seeing what seems to be a big gap

A couple of things to consider- there is nothing you can do right now, so there’s no point ruminating on it; there’s also a gap between the knee and foot so obviously not everything shows in the scan, her lip could be totally normal, just not showing, like all the other little areas that aren’t clear; you needed the amoxicillin.

Have a deep breath. When is your next appointment so you can get proper advice? Your official scan, maybe? I don’t know what the current practice is.

My scan was yesterday which was the 12 week scan. She said she didnt see anything to worry about but they look for cleft lip at the 20 week scan.
her? Do you think baby could be a girl?

I was supposed to have the exact same when I was born and I didn’t xxxx

Do you have anxiety / health anxiety ?

And is this your first baby?

Georgia174 · 20/11/2025 10:00

@SalmonOnFinnCrisp no my third. And no I do not. I am just seeing a big gap in three different pictures. So wondering if anyone else had the same. Thats all.

@Georgia174 I didn’t say ‘her’ deliberately. I am not someone who would have a clue. I misread your post.

Re clefts, I have looked after a child with a cleft. If it turned out to be the case- and I have no idea- It’s all very manageable. Please try not to worry.
