Why do people waste your time?!?!

Giving away two pairs of quality curtains, practically perfect condition. Woman says she'll be here around 7:30 and now isnt responding to messages. Waste of my time when I'm giving her something for free!!

Tell me about it. Story of my life trying to donate on Trash nothing.. Sometimes it seems when you're giving something away from free, the recipients are less grateful than if you'd asked them to pay.

Rainydays65 · 19/11/2025 20:27

She's now messaged saying she had a car problem but was meant to collect an hour ago, she could've messaged. Someone else wants them so I'm inclined just to give them to them instead, is that unreasonable?

If she had messaged and you had agreed to a delayed pickup tomorrow or something then it would be unreasonable. But as she didn't bother to tell you then frankly give them to the first person who turns up. This is why it's always good to put a nominal free - even if it's a fiver - on an ad, as people will make more of an effort to turn up to collect something that they have to pay for.

AmITheLastOne · 19/11/2025 20:31

I’d give them to the other person.

Ilovehighlandcows · 19/11/2025 20:39

Give them to the other person.

But tell the time waster you took them to the tip!

TheatricalLife · 19/11/2025 20:41

Tale as old as time -people are a pain in the arse with free items for some bizarre reason. I'd give them to the other person now.

HevenlyMeS · 19/11/2025 20:50

I'm so sorry to hear you've been messed around by this female - Sometimes it seems simpler for some folks to just grey rock us, even when they were getting something for nothing
I'll never comprehend why some just choose the simplest option for themselves & don't stop to put themselves in others shoes 😥So rude & disrespectful
You're most surely not alone, I've had this treatment numerous times & I've known of others being given this unfair treatment too💚

LingeringDogFart · 19/11/2025 21:01

I picked up some curtains from Freegle today. Unfortunately you do get time wasters. Don’t give second chances. Let the other person have them.

Bagamama · 19/11/2025 21:02

I knew this would be a facebook / freegle thing. People are awful.

Puskiesauce · 19/11/2025 21:04

On the other side, I've messaged three separate people from FBmarketplace to see if I can collect a Christmas tree they're offering and no reply.

Both buyers and sellers need to respond!

PollyBell · 19/11/2025 21:06

We did this years ago and was asked do we deliver, for free? no!

Bearbookagainandagain · 19/11/2025 21:10

If I'm giving things away for free, I just ask for an approximate time and tell them I'll put the item out on the driveway for them to pick up.
It's more convenient for everyone, and if they're late and a neighbour pick it up then it's their problem.

Ohhhthedrama · 19/11/2025 21:11

Just say you'll leave them outside for her. If they're still there when you go to bed then move on to the next person tomorrow.

tanstaafl · 19/11/2025 21:19

That woman needs to pull herself together.

I tried to sell them for a tenner (bought for £120) but no one messaged. So put them on for free as didnt want to tip them as dont put anything in landfill unless I have to.

I've been distributing stuff on Freecycle for about 20 years now. I've found most people are pretty good about arriving on time and being suitably appreciative.

On the 2/3 occasions people haven't turned up when agreed they've had a very prompt 'sorry you missed it, someone else got here before you' message.

Fair enough - lots of charities will take them though.

We did this years ago and was asked do we deliver, for free? no!

I’m selling heaters, in original box, with all feet/wall hangers etc, very cheap, good brand, extremely cheap because I just want rid before we move. Bloke has messaged 6 times to clarify price etc-it’s clear on the advert. He then wants me to deliver them to a different town 15 minutes away, claiming I’m in the low emissions zone. I am not, but he then responded sceptically asking for my postcode so he could check. Just fuck off, you idiot!
