Silk/satin pillowcases for your hair - worth it or just great marketing?

My dd has asked for one for Xmas as her cousins have them.

Are the cheaper satin ones any good? Are the silk ones worth worth buying?

I have several silk pillowcases. I love the feel of them against my skin, but I can't say I've noticed any difference in the appearance of my skin or hair. I think it's worth paying for the real thing as opposed to the cheap satin ones, and if you can, get the ones that are silk on both sides, ie, not the ones with cotton lining.

Thanks, I must admit, I’m tempted for myself as well!

I've used a satin one for the last few years and certainly my hair is less frizzy, and in better condition. My hairdresser has even commented on it. I don't know if it's made much difference to my skin but I suspect perimenopause is a stronger influence than a pillowcase could ever be on that front.

I don't know if a silk one would be even better but I doubt it's worth the additional cost if your daughter is still a teen/in her 20s.

I have silk pillowcases and silk sleeping bonnets and my hair is in so much better condition now -used to get really tangled with dry ends using a cotton pillowcase!

One of my DDs uses a silk pillowcase. Her hair looks amazing, but maybe she’s just lucky with thick glossy locks.

I am tempted to try myself.

At first I used to wash it on a delicate silk cycle but one day I forgot and chucked in in at 60 with the rest of the bedding. It’s absolutely fine so now I always wash it at 60 (she puts oils on her face at night so it needs regular washing and 60 works much better)

Not worth it. I got a silk bonnet instead. It’s much better

It's made a difference to my hair and also to my skin. I don't have curly/frizzy hair, but it was getting really prone to breakage and the silk pillowcase has definitely made a difference. I also get fewer spots.

It has to be real silk but they don't have to be expensive. Some of them are very pricey but I bought mine from Amazon and they were about £15 each. Mine zip closed like a cushion cover.

Think it was these ones:
