Has anyone been? What did you think?
I went in 2011 and tonight and can see why it is the last one.

Perhaps everything has its time. These light installations were all the rage a few years ago when they were novel and innovative. Now: not so much. Also doesn’t help with this grotty weather either! Also, I think Durham has some flooding too, so imagine it’s all very soggy!

I’ve given up on these light trails and installations - have horrible memories of going to Blenheim Palace and dragging a buggy around the lake on pouring rain and again at Marwell Zoo, again in torrential rain.

My first (and last) Lumiere yesterday. It was ok, but what struck me was the natural beauty of the cathedral beats the garish flowers on Palace Green etc hands down. Organisation was good, but we had an early slot - I believe the later slots are pretty chaotic. DS went 4 years ago and he said this year’s wasn’t as good as then. Market square laser lines were a bit rubbish.
I had an idea it was more widespread, it seemed a bit concentrated in the centre and nothing around the wider university buildings, like in previous years.
Glad I went, but if it were continuing I don’t think I’d bother going again.

I’ve been to them all since 2013 and have some great memories of Lumiere so I’m glad I went to the last one yesterday but it certainly didn’t go out with a bang. I felt it lacked a wow installation. I started at 5pm last night and the crowds weren’t so bad, trundled round until about 7.30. In its defence, not much is genuinely free these days.

In 2011 they had a light show on the cathedral. Now the crowds and the queue to get inside.

I think yes it has had its day.

I remember my dd loving the smow globe. Nothing like that now.
