Tww cancer pathway

Aibu to be going out of my fucking mind?

went to the doctors, found a lump and they’ve seen my history and put 2 and 2 together and they seem worried. Looked at my urgent referral form and says she has a gut feeling.
I can’t eat, I can’t sleep. It’s all I think about. It’s on my labia minora, and it don’t hurt just very itchy.
all tests negative for thrush, bv etc.

For context, it’s 0.5x0.5cm which is very small, but it’s still there, I can still feel it.

Also, On the day of my appointment if anyone knows do I just go there and talk about it and send me away or will any procedures happen thah day?

sorry if this is the wrong page to post it to, I’ve posted on the cancer only thread but it’s a bit quiet and I’m so worried 😩😩😩😩😩😩😭

What’s the history?
Most people in the 2WW won’t have cancer but everything that has a chance of being so is referred.

vincettenoir · 15/11/2025 19:59

For certain types of cancers GPs are risk averse and refer liberally in accordance with the guidance. It is more likely that your symptoms meet the threshold for the NICE guidelines rather than anything to do with a gut feeling. I wish you all the best and I hope you get your appointment quickly.

Sorry to hear you’re having an understandably worrying time, and I hope your appointment comes quickly.

When the appointment letter arrives it should include some information leaflets about what to expect, including any possible tests on the day.

As PPs have said, the majority of fast track referrals are completely normal and GPs err on the side of caution. Doesn’t stop you worrying though.

indecisivewoman81 · 15/11/2025 20:01

I'm sorry you are going through this. I have been here twice before, for different reasons.

Usually on the day they will have a good look, take photos, maybe biopsy the lump and discuss with you.

When I had a lump on my breast I had a mammogram, and an ultrasound there and then plus a meeting with the doctor. I was then sent to have an MRI about a week later.

Remember that whatever the outcome you will be seen soon and things will be okay.

So basically prepare myself for lots of tests and give myself time for the appointment? For some reason I was thinking it would be a quick in and out thing. Have no idea why

How certain are you and your doctor that it's not just a cyst or ingrown hair? They're very common. It wouldn't have occured to me that it could be cancer if I had that lump as I'd just assume it had a benign cause, so I'm very surprised you've been referred. Did the doctor say anything about why it was concerning?

No I think it’s due to my history if I’m honest. I did ask that and she said it’s unlikely and unlikely to be a cyst aswell due to where it is. I just wish it would all hurry up cos I’m a nervous wreck!

I’ve been on the fast track cancer pathway twice in the last two years. My first symptoms were similar to yours - irregular bleeding, smear tear had abnormal cells then blood test had cancer indicators. Turned out to be bleeding fibroids which were non cancerous and removed (after 4 operations, that’s another saga). Then back again 2 weeks ago for a breast lump. Tests on Thursday confirmed no cancer again.
I know how worrying this is, you immediately think worst case scenario. Both times I was fine and the worrying was for nothing.
Try to keep busy and away from Google until you know as you could be (and will most likely be) fine.

How worrying for you. I've had my own (complete lack of) fun with the breast clinic a few times and I know the anxiety is just completely overwhelming. Really hoping it's nothing x

Also, sorry to post again but you can try calling the clinic when you get your appointment through, or even before then, and asking to be alerted if there are any cancellations. I cried on the phone that I wouldn't be able to survive the anxiety of the two week wait and they moved stuff around for me to be seen within days, which I was so grateful for as I was basically non-functional with fear.

@Mummalovesya

In reply to you. The breast turned out to be nothing, the other one was skin cancer and was sorted very quickly with no lasting repercussions
