*TW* Summer camp leader pleads guilty

i remember this story last year and praying that no children came to any harm. What a sick sick individual and kudos to the stepson for reporting him and calling the police, I cannot imagine the horror of realising what had been happening.

27 years this man had ran this camp. I know many on here say about being overprotective but honestly I will never let my children do residentials for this very reason. I know very rare case but my goodness there’s some monsters out there.

The religion part is a huge issue. Here in the north of Ireland the Presbyterian church has been ignoring safeguarding for years and a leader has just resigned. They are investigating themselves! Self auditing.No outside overseer and people's voices concerns politely ignored or bullied down. They were not following legislation and followers of any religion naively accept what leaders say/ believe.

Wow. Yes definitely, and I can imagine so many victims either don’t know / remember or have just lived years with the awful knowledge of what happened. So so horrific.

I think it’s incredibly interesting that the stepson raised concerns.

Horrific 😢 Surely it should have been investigated before, how was this allowed to go on so long with no-one realising something was wrong and reporting him?
Mrs Prior said Ruben had 'for at least 27 years' run the holiday camp, and 'selected' children to attend from church classes and youth groups he was involved in.
She told how there had been a 'long history of children feeling sick at the camp over many years' and added: 'At Stathern Lodge, the defendant was in charge. He made the rules.'
She added: 'For many years he has played what he calls a sweet game with the children in which he goes into the bedrooms where the children are in their pyjamas.
'The game is that each has to eat three really sticky sweets as quickly as they can, but they must chew them.
'When that has been played, the children have always fallen ill the next morning.'

This is absolutely horrific. I remember when the children being ill was reported in the news but at that stage the sexual abuse wasn’t reported.
Those poor children over so many years. What an evil man to drug and abuse innocent children; this is so much worse than I thought it was.
I hope the evil fecker suffers every moment of the rest of his life.

Look what happened in the Catholic Church and not necessarily in residential homes or on overnight trips. Children afraid to report the priests and who would believe them anyway!

I hope the stepson has very good support
