Pain in left side - worried

I am currently ovulating and get ovulation pain most months, but this is totally different. It started on Monday, it feels like a constant pain in my lower left - sometimes dull, sometimes pinching, sometimes like trapped wind. When peeing I get a sharp pain in that same area. I also feel I have to bear down to fully empty my bladder.

My period last week was heavy and more painful than usual. I also had a lot of lower back pain, which I still have.

Thinking of contacting the GP tomorrow.

Has anyone had similar?

Yes I’ve had similar for many months on and off and it’s very painful around ovulation time. I’ve been told it’s a cyst and it will come and go.

Please get it checked, if anything a scan will put your mind to rest.

Also if you are anywhere close to the perimenopause stage I’ve been told these pains get worse!

Catofninelives · 13/11/2025 21:40

I will contact the GP tomorrow, but I have a feeling they won’t take me particularly seriously as I have only had the pain since Monday.

I’m 36 so not near peri yet, I don’t think.

Is there any chance you can go private?

My gp refused to refer me for a scan but luckily I was able to go private.

Rosesanddaffs · 13/11/2025 21:42

start charting the days, that’s what I did as they will ask when you get the pain to see if there’s a pattern.

I had it for 2 months and decided it was too long so got it checked.

Catofninelives · 13/11/2025 21:42

Not really, I don’t have that kind of money unfortunately. We are struggling a bit as it is.

OP posts:
Rosesanddaffs · 13/11/2025 21:44

Ok in that case push for a referral to be scanned, don’t take no for an answer.

Catofninelives · 13/11/2025 21:44

I will do.

My periods are awful, I also have pains before my period starts too. I have suspected endometriosis for a while now. But I can’t be sure.

Do you think it sounds like cancer? I guess that’s what I’m most scared about.

Diverticulitis? It was the worst pain in my lower left side.
Hope you get it sorted x

Rosesanddaffs · 13/11/2025 21:46

Does the pain feel like pinching and then turns to stabbing? Mine swaps from left to right.

Periods have been horrendous, some days the flow is so heavy, they just told me to monitor the flow and to keep an eye on any clots.

This was my worry when I started having these pains. I don’t think it is and I know only too well it’s easy for me to say don’t worry but I know you will.

Chances are it’s a cyst, could be a fibroid or anything else, but please push for a scan.

Catofninelives · 13/11/2025 21:49

@Diarygirlqueen

Whats the treatment for this?

@Rosesanddaffs l have always had clots when I have my period. Not sure if this is normal. As long as I can remember.

I've always had them too but noticed with the pain and heavier flow they were getting bigger, they said it’s down to my fibroids

Having had surgery for endometriosis my first question was have you been scanned or checked for that or on that pathway. My next question was have you ever had an ovarian cyst. And then would you consider birth control?

I would go to the GP any unexplained pelvic pain needs to be investigated, a scan to check for a cyst. They tend to leave these, but that would put your mind at rest over cancer, you could tell them you are worried ask for bloods to put your mind at rest.

Then maybe try birth control, it’s not a fix but it would maybe help with periods and pains for a while while you get investigated endometriosis.

Not a fan of using birth control for endometriosis but in some cases it helps and buys you time and a break from pain.

A lady in my support group has endometriosis and later in life developed cancer ovarian and uterine and said endometriosis is painful and the cancer wasn’t even noticeable in terms of pain, and I’ve heard that from a few people, so maybe that’s reassurance for you?

Whats the treatment for this?

Antibiotics

The odd thing is I get zero pain during intercourse currently. I thought if it was a cyst it would cause pain during sex or is that not always the case?
