Google shopping - artificial prices

Hi,

I'm maybe the last to spot this but thought I would post as there will be loads of us Christmas shopping just now.

I was buying a PS5 and used Google to help look for deals etc. Found the one I want on Very.co.uk website. Clicked through via Google, paid £594.

For some random reason, I then went back onto Very.co.uk for a browse and wanted to double check which model PS5 I had bought, low and behold it was £30 cheaper going direct to the website rather than Google who presumably get a £30 commission.

All sorted as I cancelled my original order and reordered at the lower price but definitely something to watch out for if you're googling for shopping.

No real AIBU, just posting here for traffic in the hope it saves someone their hard earned cash).

Yes, I've noticed this. At the same time, though, I've got discounted prices by clicking a Google link - it says under the ad something like '£XX with Google" or offers a voucher code. We just need to be on the ball, I guess!

I think of it as no different from shopping IRL, but with wider choices and no legwork. I'm old enough to remember when a new tech purchase meant blocking off half a day to go into 20 shops on Tottenham Court Road, haggle with each one, then go back to the best offer. Double-checking an ad link's much less work than that!
