My son has runaway

My son has runaway from home. We had an argument this morning because he didn't want to go to school and he stormed out.

He is 10 (almost 11). The school called me and told me he hadn't arrived. I've tried calling and texting him but had no reply. I've called the police and they are out searching for him. His Dad and sister are currently driving round the area (and friends houses etc) in the hope of spotting him. I'm going out of my mind with worry 😭 he's never done this before.

Very frightening OP.

Where might he think to go?
Where have you ever been with him that he knows is open and he could wait in?
Library? Big supermarket?

RaininSummer · 11/11/2025 18:56

Has he been missing since this morning then OP? That is worrying.

AintNoPunshineWhenShesGone · 11/11/2025 18:56

Very worrying.

Have you circulated his photo all over social media etc?

Hope he turns up soon.

purpleygrey · 11/11/2025 18:57

Assuming you are in the uk.
he left the house before school time, and it’s now 7pm, he’s been missing all day?

are you’re texts being delivered ?
what a worry.

CinnamonBuns67 · 11/11/2025 18:58

That's terrifying OP. I hope he's found so he is safe and the reasons he's took the decision to run away from home can be spoken about.

Upthenorth · 11/11/2025 18:59

I hope you have good news soon OP.

I can’t imagine the worry. Sending strength.

Mumdiva99 · 11/11/2025 18:59

Sorry you are going through this. Share his picture all over social media (in a controlled way that you can delete once he's found).

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 11/11/2025 19:00

How awful. Did he have any money with him do you know? That might narrow his options.

Juliannaz · 11/11/2025 19:01

How worrying. Have you got this out onto your local Facebook?

Luxio · 11/11/2025 19:01

That's very worrying, it's a long time to be missing at his age.

I'm guessing you've reached out to his friends parents to see if he's been in touch with any of them?

XWKD · 11/11/2025 19:01

Can you tell if he is receiving your texts?

He could be afraid to come home now, and think he has landed himself in a right mess.

Wario54 · 11/11/2025 19:02

Yes he stormed out about 8.40 this morning.

We've tried the local shops, library, friends houses etc. My husband is going upto the local park now in case he's there. No money on him as far as I know. He only had his phone, school bag and a light coat on

There is no controlled way.

The idea of sharing a photo of a missing child is so that everyone who sees it will also share, so it goes very far and wide ASAP because it needs to.

But if it was my child, I'd rather have no control over it as long as he's found quickly.

PhaseFour · 11/11/2025 19:06

Does he have any location devices on his phone?
Can you do a find my phone & it will show on a map his location.
I can't imagine how beyond worried you must be feeling.

PhaseFour · 11/11/2025 19:07

How long have thd police been searching, Wario 54?

wantam · 11/11/2025 19:09

Oh God, what a nightmare. Hope he will be found safe and well. Get on Facebook immediately.

You might not wish to do it, but an alert posted here might help if he hasn't returned soon.

Would you be willing to say the area you live in and a brief description of your boy? You'd never know who might see him about. All hands on deck. Terrifying for you all I am sure.

Have the police given you any ideas in order to try find him?

HarbourClankCat · 11/11/2025 19:12

It won’t help no doubt as you must be frantic - but it is reasonably common. Has he taken a charger, spare clothes? Do you have an accurate idea of what he is wearing and any clothes that may be missing?

Is there anywhere he might try to head? Relatives, friends, former living location?

Have the police been able to locate a phone location? My adult friend went missing and they told us her phone was pinging within a mile of a place.

From what you have described he sounds very ill prepared for November. So think about warm places that are open - late night shops, libraries, leisure centres, cinema.

The fact he appears ill prepared is a good thing as fingers crossed it will drive him home quickly now it’s dark. Xx

Matsukaze · 11/11/2025 19:16

Any devices that he uses that might yield any clues?

Rainraingoaway21 · 11/11/2025 19:18

It might sound silly but do you have any sheds or a garage he could access? He may have decided to come back as cold but too embarassed to come into the house?

rainbowsandraspberrygin · 11/11/2025 19:18

So sorry OP. How scary for you! I’d be going crazy out of my mind too. I really hope he turns up soon.

try to get a phone location and send pictures on social media.

rainbowsandraspberrygin · 11/11/2025 19:19

Big supermarket near by??

Wario54 · 11/11/2025 19:20

He doesn't have an iPhone. Just a fairly cheap android. So can't use find my iPhone unfortunately. I've put an appeal on my personal FB page and relatives have shared it

It’s very worrying he went missing this morning with nothing on him. That’s a long time for an ill-prepared 10 year old to be out. How long have police been searching? When did you realise he was missing? Is there something that makes you think he has runaway? Obviously it’s preferable he has and is somewhere safe.

pteromum · 11/11/2025 19:21

You need to post on local pages
spread the word - the more people are looking out for him the better.
