I’m a single parent and basically have no friends in the town I live, recently moved house. I did have some friends but most have fizzled out and they were more like acquaintances. Right now if I’m happy/ sad I have no one to call and share my story except my family abroad.. very lonely and sad.. everything in my life is going good. Nice house, job except some friends and a partner.. how do you find friends?

How old is your child? Could you try something like Messy Church?

ImaginaryAilments · 09/11/2025 23:37

Well, what kind of people do you like? What are you like? What do you bring to a friendship? In what ways do you imagine fitting into a new friend’s life and vice versa?

My kids are 9 and 8.

I like out going, supportive, ambitious and generally doing fun things together. I am supportive, generous, loyal with people in general

Sign the girls up to Brownies and then volunteer as a helper yourself.

Sign your children and/or yourself up to some clubs or activities, so you are coming into contact with other parents or people with the same interests. Get chatting with your neighbours, start with a hello over the fence, quick convo, find out what they are like, then if you gel with them invite them over for a cuppa. Are you not friendly with any parents from your kids school? Ask your kids to invite their friends for a play date so you can meet their parents. When I was child most of my Mum's friends were the parents of my friends. Assuming you work can you befriend any of your colleagues?

have you met many parents on the school run?

As my kids moved school so not make any mums friends yet. But I had a bad experience with mums parents from my previous school which affected some of my children friendship as I fallout with a mum.. so I thought I be careful not to get close with school mums.
