To think people confuse validation with connection?

Likes, sympathy, constant reassurance - it all looks like closeness but it’s not. AIBU to think many people would rather be seen than known?

Of course. Everyone loves an echo chamber.

I think this is a bit deep for MN. I often notice how little thought goes into many answers ( with honourable exceptions).

Hi OP I have been thinking about this lately. As a mum in a new area, there are a few people around I speak to, I like and can spend a few hours with (coffee / chatting etc). But a really deep connection: these are so few and far between for me that I can safely say I haven't found a friend with a deep connection for many years. In fact the deep connections I have had with old friendships even seem a bit shallower these days. I am really not sure what the answer is. I would love to click with more people tbh, maybe I am just a bit odd or have been unlucky (or both).
