New fireworks shop

A new fireworks shop opened near me (less than half a mile from my house) fairly recently. There were quite a lot of fireworks going off throughout the year locally before, but since this shop opened it's been absolutely bloody constant. And obviously, it's been even worse the last couple of weeks.

I'm not a firework-hater, but when they're going off sporadically from dusk until 3 am with periodic frenzies, and they're the really loud ones, surely something has to be done! It's not just one house - it's loads, so I don't think a noise complaint is the way to go.

Any advice much appreciated! (And yes, I've tried earplugs. Unfortunately the fireworks are too loud. Also, I have cats, and they can't wear earplugs, poor things!)

Nothing you can do apart from accept that fireworks will be going off a lot around NY and 5th Nov. It's annoying but that's the reality.

Wouldnt be suprised if fireworks out of big displays end up banned soon what with what happened the other day.

I wouldn't mind if it was just around November 5th and NY, but we already get fireworks going off all year round, and this new shop is open all year round too!

You could check with local Trading Standards to see if it is totally legit.

Some 'fireworks' are definitely illegal but that doesn't stop people selling them.

Advice? Burn it down? (lol)

But honestly surely all you can do is either avoid your home during this period or campaign to get that shop shut down, or campaign for what Ireland have, fireworks are banned.

Look into how it happened.

Adult ear defenders?
Better earplugs? The ones used in the construction industry?

Ooh, thanks - hadn't realised Ireland had banned them! I'm off to find out how. Trading standards is also a good shout

You have to have a reason for reporting them to trading standards though. You can't just say 'i don't like the fireworks so can you please check if this shop is doing anything illegal'

I strongly suspect they're selling display fireworks to members of the public

If we had to use the equivalent of fireworks at work, there would be endless form-filling, competence courses and instruction to complete before we’d be allowed to use them, yet any idiot is allowed to buy them…madness. The sooner they are banned the better!
