Would you report a brothel?

I’ll start by saying that men treating women as a sex providing commodity makes my flesh crawl.

I visited a property a few days ago, spoke to 2 women I assumed were tenants, and naively didn’t realise what was going on at the time.

The women were not from the UK, but spoke reasonable English. I wasn’t looking for signs of coercion, etc and one of them opened the door to me, so they must have some freedom.

I know it’s illegal. I just can’t see what reporting it will actually achieve. The people running the brothel are unlikely to be caught and these poor women will probably just have to move to another location.

I suppose I’m looking for any positive reasons to report.

If you live in the area and are worried it will create a lot of creep traffic then sure.

Otherwise I only would if I thought the women were being especially badly treated - just because they will be generally safer in a brothel than on the streets

Some women run their own brothels.

But how are you going to know that unless you report it?

You seem to have made up the outcome in your mind, but how could you possibly know the people running it are unlikely to be caught and the women will have to move?

If you have rock solid evidence for that (which you don't) then just do nothing.

Of course report it. The women are likely victims of aex trafficking.

How safe they are depends on who's running the brothel.

I was thinking along those lines. The place was quite nice, so they could end up somewhere worse.

Sorry, why were you visiting? Was an official capacity? But yes of you havd concerns about their safety then you should report it.

I was helping a friend with a delivery.
I didn’t have any concerns at the time. I found out later via my friend. He didn’t know at the time either.

I'm generally not of the same mindset as most of MN when it comes to porn etc

But this feels like an obvious case of people trafficking. Just because they opened the door doesn't mean they've got freedom - there may have been a pimp or boss behind another door watching them and they knew not to react or try and run

They get away with it because people think "Oh its not worth reporting that"

Catladywithoutacat · 05/11/2025 00:37

Yes

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/11/2025 00:37

I'd report @Whatwouldyoudo123. Anything to disrupt the rapists and sex traffickers.
