Airport flight announcements

Hello think ive been a dopey sod at the airport but I was continually checking the screen for gate number number admittedly I thought they seemed slow displaying the relevant information but all of a sudden I hear an announcement for final call and think yikes and have to bolt to the gate number which has suddenly appeared on screen this was approximately 2pm flight due out at 2.35pm made it in plenty time but I was surprised at getting caught out like this anybody else experienced this or was I clumsy here because ears where open whole time and eyes lol

Doesn’t your flight app update you?

They don’t announce until final call if at all. If the screen says “go to gate” or “gate closing”, you go there. Typical gates close half an hour ahead of departure and boarding starts.

I dont always look at that just the screens crikey should have

I've never known a screen not update earlier. You get at least 4 different statuses of saying "gate information at x time", gate number, boarding and final call. I doubt it went straight from the first one to final call.

A lot of airports don't make announcements. Gate number is usually up in good time.

I’ve def known Ryanair flights go straight to “final call” stage without announcing boarding first or the boarding stage literally lasting 30 seconds

I’ve def had my name called out at least twice (years ago), at least you didn’t get to that stage!

Most airports don’t make announcements as it would just be a constant announcement. They will announce final call and then start reading names of passengers who are “missing”, giving them one last chance. But general gate allocations are not usually announced.

Have you not flown before?

I've had the app show a different gate from the screens (the correct gate). Not making that mistake again.
