Halloween bloody fireworks

For goodness sake it’s bloody Halloween not fireworks night! Bloody great banging, screaming bastard things. I hate them anyway due to our terrified animals but really, am I being unreasonable to expect people to wait?

That is so strange. I’m stood at our back door listening to someone’s dog bark at fireworks that are going off.

Refreshed the page and this came up!

When November 5th is midweek you can expect two weekends of fireworks. Pretty standard.

UnhappyHobbit · 31/10/2025 18:57

It’s very annoying but we can’t control the actions of other people.

We have got displays in our area tonight. Bonfire night is mid week so people often do weekends and a lot of people will be having joint halloween and bonfire night parties

The fireworks started near where I live at the start of October - is this just an Autumn/winter pastime now? It needs to be regulated for the sake of people with conditions who suffer from loud noise, and pets

I've literally just sat down to post this exact thing. My neighbours are setting off rockets at the end of their 10-foot garden, which means they are only about 20 feet away from my house.

I was on the treadmill when the first one went off and hit my kitchen window a few feet away from where I was running. Naturally, I instinctively ran away from whatever had just exploded, having no fucking clue what was happening.

I can now, with experience, tell you that jumping from a treadmill running at 7kmph is not fun or safe. I smacked my head off the fridge freezer and landed hard on my hip, and now I cannot walk without pain.

The dog who usually loves fireworks is cowering behind the sofa, refusing to come out.

Who the fuck thinks it is a good idea to set off explosives 20 feet away from someone else's property?

They should not be sold to the general public. The majority do not have the common sense to use them safely. There is a massive recreation ground less than a 5-minute walk away. Why could they not take them there?

Meanwhile I’ve just called the police because instead of my doorbell ringing with trick or treaters I heard fireworks, looked out if the window and saw 2 men literally firing them at each other like guns 😳 so bloody dangerous, I didn’t know what to do!! Ten mins later a whole load of children were trooping down the road - the thought of the timing being different is just horrible (and I’m still shaking!!)

My son's just told me there are fireworks going off near where he is in Edinburgh.

Non here where I am tonight, thank goodness.

But tomorrow is the town's organised fireworks display just five minutes from where I live. And that means not only fireworks noise but huge traffic queues and cars parked everywhere.

I just can't wait until all this Halloween and fireworks stuff is over.

I'm sat here tonight with the blind down and no Halloween decorations and yet I've still had children knocking on my door. I've not opened it. But in the past the children only used knock at the houses with pumpkins or decorations. It's really stressful when you live alone.

@Teeteringonthebrink45

That sounds absolutely awful.
Well done you for calling the police.

It felt a bit OTT to call 999 but they could have killed each other or seriously hurt anyone who got in the way!! Amazingly a police car arrived 10mins after my call (so the children must have been walking by much sooner, maybe after 5 minutes 😳) but thankfully they were finished with their stupidity by then. Grown adults!!!

Oh you poor thing, that’s awful, hope you and doggo are ok. Why are these people so stupid!

Omg @Frequencyi missed your post earlier, that’s terrifying!! I hope you’re ok. Couldn’t agree more on your last paragraph as my experience just proved.

For many years there always used to be an advertising campaign on tv in the run up to November 5th talking about the dangers of fireworks. But if they still do this I certainly haven't seen it for a few years.
And people seem so casual about how lethal fireworks can be. How they can kill and maim and blind.

The police obviously took the potential danger very seriously for them to turn up so quickly after your call. You did exactly the right thing.
