Background: So I've been with my boyfriend for 7 months.

We went to the shopping mall and by chance saw my boyfriends female childhood and early adulthood friend who he had a crush on way before we got together. By the sounds of it, she enjoyed leading him on to no end result.

This was the first time of me meeting her.
Without her even acknowledging me she went into a full conversation with him.
She said "is this the girl in the pic (Facebook profile) or a new person altogether". I thought this was a rather strange comment to make when I was standing right there next to my boyfriend. Secondly, I felt I looked really pretty in the photo and this made me feel self conscious. She then continues to speak 1 on 1 with my boyfriend not bothering to involve me.

Have I over reacted or was this a callas/rude way to speak in front of someone.

For me I didn't have a great first impression of her but my boyfriend seems to think she's a lovely person.

Do you think I overreacted?

She's rude.

If you're all 13, I'd say it's par for the course!

She's a bit rude, your reaction is a bit strong, it's all very childish.

Wingedharpy · 31/10/2025 18:53

Rise above it.

High school behaviour in a mall.

Greenscreennightmare · 31/10/2025 19:02

She was rude but also, did your boyfriend not introduce you? If he didn't then he was equally rude. If he did, then she was horrible, but you need to let it go. For your own sake.

JLou08 · 31/10/2025 19:02

Did you make any attempt to join the conversation? Did your partner try to include you? 3 people were there, seems unreasonable to think only 1 of them was responsible for how the interaction played out.

CryptoFascist · 31/10/2025 19:05

Is she one of those that prefers her male friends to be single? Thinks of them as orbiters rather than actual friends? You might have a problem if so.

Yeah this. Sounds like you may have a boyfriend problem.

PigletIsWorried · 31/10/2025 19:11

YANBU, she was deliberately rude. Put her from your mind unless your boyfriend's behaviour in respect of her is poor, in which case continue to give her no headspace but consider whether he's worth it.

susiedaisy1912 · 31/10/2025 19:15

How old are all of you?

Endofyear · 31/10/2025 22:29

Did your boyfriend introduce you and make an effort to bring you into the conversation? She might have been rude but she doesn't owe you anything - your boyfriend is the one who should be looking out for you!
