Where to put the roof lantern?

I have a dilemma here. Shall I align my 3x2m roof lantern with the 5m sliding door or put the lantern in the middle of the kitchen diner? The sliding door is on the left hand side, not in the centre. Can anyone help please. Any advice will be appreciated

Having googled what a roof lantern is... I'd say centre it with the room.

AKA the skylight? In the centre.

Depends on the kitchen layout for me. Might you want it to illuminate a particular area?

My husband thinks it looks better if the lantern aligns with the sliding door. However, I think that it is better to be in the centre of the kitchen diner. it is an extension. I just do not want the old dining room and kitchen area get too dark. Both of these rooms will not have windows anymore although they become part of the kitchen diner. It is good to get some reassurance on my choice.

Centre. It’s the only place that makes sense.

I found an image that shows the lantern aligns with the centre of the diner instead of the sliding door. Does it look OK to everyone?

Asking the obvious but what does your architect recommend?

abc989 · 22/10/2025 13:12

Our architect is probably one of the worst you can ever have. He only wanted to take money and gave us no advice at all.
