Well all of our rivers are filled with shit. My dd went paddle boarding in a river and was shockingly ill afterwards.

it’s disgraceful to have fined the woman for putting coffee in a drain. Shameful country we’ve become.

Goldfsh · 22/10/2025 11:02

OMG this is insane. So you are supposed to dispose of unwanted coffee into a bin, and not into a drain? Doesn't that make the council's job of bin emptying harder, with gallons of coffee sloshing around in black bin bags?

MADNESS I TELL YOU

Tiredofwhataboutery · 22/10/2025 11:03

I wouldn’t have thought it’d be an issue tbh and if Ihad a half a cup of coffee in the car I’d of tipped it down he drain rather than put fluid in the liitter bin as it makes it really heavy for person whose supposed to empty it.

The The Water (Special Measures) Bill got Royal Assent in Feb, this gives the environment agency more powers to bring criminal charges against water companies.

Hopefully the threats of fines and imprisonment for the companies executives will encourage them to clean up.

Wow. This really is madness.

StrawberrySquash · 22/10/2025 11:08

I just don't get the logic of what she is supposed to have done wrong. I am guessing it was a storm drain which goes straight into rivers etc, rather than to the sewage treatment plant, but still it must pick up far worse than coffee? Run off from car washing, animal excreta etc?

I would totally have done what she did, whereas I wouldn't toss a cigarette butt/not pick up after my dog etc.

AstonUniversityPotholeDepartment · 22/10/2025 11:11

Quote from article:

Ms Yesilyurt said when she asked the officers what she was supposed to have done with the remaining coffee, she was told to pour it in a nearby bin.

I'd love to know whether the officers had spoken to anyone on the council's street cleaning team before they said that. Binjuice is horrible!

Factually liquids in wastebags make it far more difficult to change the binbag, and the increased weight of it can mean the whole bag rips as it's being lifted up.

If you successfully get the bag out of the bin, you then have to be careful to prop it up on the back of the truck. If the bag falls on its side, the (disgusting) binjuice begins to dribble out.

Well my council prides its self on the environment wildlife climate and greenery.
Yet here we are pretty much every week they are cutting down trees.
I had a fab tree near mine gave me lots of privacy etc years old they cut it down because one neighbour said it messed with his signal.
Tree came down he still had bad signal.
