Randomly coming across people in later life...

... it's been a weird weekend with me. Something in the water, but two people I haven't spoken to in donkey's years have been in touch which was nice but peculiar - why both this weekend? But that's not the weirdest bit.

Back at uni, when I broke up with my boyfriend, I had a bit of a situationship with a medical student. He was good fun, played the guitar, didn't mind being a bit of a tit on the dancefloor. We met at a fancy dress evening at the union and I had to go home the next day still dressed as Jessica Rabbit... it was never anything serious because he smoked way, way too much which was never my thing.

Then this morning I was on YouTube and his name popped up... it's a really unusual name. But I was really busy today and out and about. So only just sat down. It's definitely him - so funny looking at him talking about the challenges facing GPs these days... and I would say from the content that he still loves himself quite a bit!

Have you ever come across people YEARS later and it's been interesting to reconcile them with who you knew them to be at the time? This chap no longer has a duck's bum hairdo but he's just as (over)confident in his own skin! Has similar happened to you?

When I first started work after university, my first job was in a laboratory in a prestigious university. I was qualified but junior and a woman slightly older and slightly more senior wasn't nice to me. She was a total snob. She looked down on me as though I was her social inferior and made comments about "northerners". Everyone else was nice, including the boss, so I wasn't upset by horrible woman, but I hated her.

About 10 years ago I was searching newspaper archives and came across her name. It turned out that her rich life was a sham. She and her husband had been caught embezzling the firm they both worked for. He got a custodial sentence, she got a suspended, but the shame must have been awful.
Karma.
