Having anxiety over contractor

I'm getting garden works done and expected it just to be the man who owns the company And labourer, but he's actually got a team working for him.

No idea but one guy turned up today with a thick accent and kept on whinge about stuff. No issue because he's outside but I'm sure he kept on talking about his money and I thought he had an argument outside with someone. His accent (thick local one, I'm not from around here so I find it hard to make out) but I just need some reassurance.

I'm quite an anxious person and need to speak to owner about some of the work but am I over reacting?

Yes, from what you've said. Someone is speaking with an accent?

MrsPinkCock · 15/10/2025 22:42

About an accent? Yes, probably! It sounds perfectly normal to me, trades people often have thick accents.

The only time I took issue with it was when two of them almost had a fist fight in my living room, but I kicked them out and got a hefty discount so it was fine in the end 😂

He has an English accent, a thick Salford accent.

I don't understand what the problem is? Am I missing something here?!

DiscoBob · 15/10/2025 22:45

You can't really say you don't look like the bloke's accent. And it doesn't really matter if you can't understand him easily if he's just doing physical work.

It's fine to ask them to keep the noise down but otherwise just leave them to get on with it.

Maybe just put on music and try and forget about them? Or go out for a couple of hours?

He keeps on taking about being not being paid and demanding money etc. his accent makes it hard to know exactly what's he's saying but I just feel uneasy

Well if he’s not directing it at you I wouldn’t be trying to work out what he’s saying?

Yes I was just surprised the guy I hired has so many working for him. I do this weird thing when I over analysis everything.
