I am 50 today!

Hello everyone!

As the title says, I am 50 today. I know it’s just another day, just another year passing but it feels like a landmark.

At 30 I was with an abusive ex and had a miserable day while he ignored me. At 40 we were utterly broke.

Today I’ve had a lovely afternoon with DP and DC. We have tickets to the literary festival on Saturday, a rare treat for me and DP to get out. I feel very happy.

Everyone I know does big things for their landmark birthdays. Special holidays, parties, or other big events. Despite me posting here, in real life I don’t like a lot of fuss and hate attention on me (autistic and ADHD).

I’m quite time-poor. I have two DC who are disabled, one with high needs. Neither will probably live independently. They are home educated now (lack of suitable SEN school places). DM lives in the annexe. She has cerebral palsy and dementia. I’m her carer. DP collapsed a few years ago ago with a neurological condition and struggles with most things. I work freelance as a copywriter to pay the bills but that often involves working till 4-5am due to lack of time. Life is quite full-on.

Sorry, getting round to my point….!

I think I’d like to do something in the next year. Something that celebrates turning 50 rather than just feeling depressingly old. Maybe something that celebrates every day in some way?

Only something trivial.

I lost three stone last year (keto) and need to get back on it to lose more. I started walking for 30-60 minutes every night a couple of months ago.

I was thinking maybe making sure I go for a walk every day (even just for 5 mins) and then colouring a square/line to show how many steps I did that day. I know, my life is so exciting 😂😂🫣

I just like the idea of doing SOMETHING every day for the next year as a celebration of 50. Something small that’s just for me.

Is that ridiculous?! 😂

If anyone has any other ideas I’d love to hear them. I’m quite arty and crafty so I particularly enjoy anything related to that but I’m open to any suggestions really.

Also I’ve never managed to actually do anything for my skin and now my hair has joined the party and started to thin, so any tips on that would also be amazing.

I’m off to eat cake but will be back shortly 🎂

Congratulations! and Happy Birthday.
I love a challenge so 24 for 24, 25 for 25 etc. No pressure to do them all, but I love to tick off a list. This year's have included reading 25 books, learning backgammon, loving my garden, finding a great volunteering opportunity.
I am sure you could AI some ideas and then hone them down.
I am on a Q4 challenge which involves decluttering, learning new skills, saving certain amounts etc.
Make some challenges small and some in small chunks to fit in with your time challenges.

Edited for MASSIVE typo!

Happy birthday 🎂

Happy Birthday!!🥳 🎂

You have a LOT on your shoulders!

I didn't do anything for my 50th, I wish I had. My life has changed immeasurably since then. The latest thing being a stroke at 55.

your coloured-in walking chart sounds good, see how far you walk in your 50th year.

How about crocheting a line/square each day & making a blanket?

but what would feel like a treat/a joy?? (Not food obviously! Unless there's a keto treat?)

Happy birthday!! Hope you have a fabulous weekend and enjoy every minute.

Have you thought about a 'photo a day' project. I did it for a year, just took a photo of something that reminded me of that day - so if I got out for a walk it might be a picture of an interesting tree, or a field or something. If I was stuck indoors, then something I ate, or a picture in the garden, or a photo of one of my kids.

It was lovely to look back on - and made me appreciate the small things in life too.

I like this idea , you could use a time stamp app so it records the date , time and location of your photo.

If you don't like spiders how about a course / hypnosis on getting to like them .
Lots of zoos do hands on ( or off if you prefer) on getting use to them .

Many happy returns @SpidersAreShitheads I hope you have a great day and a fabulous year
