Hello Fresh are absolute robbing bastards

I used to get it regularly last year but it got a bit samey and some of the meals weren't that great so I deactivated the account. They obviously started sending discount emails and eventually I caved and started it again. But it seems they no longer send the reminder to pick your meals so I keep ending up with meals I haven't chosen which is annoying.

I thought my cut-off day was today but it turns out it was yesterday and they are refusing to refund even though the box doesn't come until Friday. Just a complete 'fuck you' attitude from the person on the chat and they have said there is no one higher to complain to! I never want to eat one of their meals again but they are saying all they can do is cancel the order and keep the money on my account. I'm furious. What a waste of money I can't really afford this month after a very expensive couple of weeks.

I got fed up after portions were tiny, only red meat was mince unless you pay way extra for special meals and veg was on its last legs.

AhWeNoss · 13/10/2025 21:04

Presumably as you had used them before you knew they have a cut off date and if you don’t pick you menu by then they choose for you?

Its annoying I know, as the replacement meals are always the things I wouldn’t get and majority are always veggie when we always order non-veggie, but not updating the order on time is on you.

Problemhooves · 13/10/2025 21:08

I hate Hello Fresh too. My dh keeps getting sucked in by the discounts too! But the portions are small, especially the expensive parts, like meat etc. The veg is often on its last legs as a pp said too.

I'd rather just cook bigger batches of things and freeze them.

Allswellthatendswelll · 13/10/2025 21:08

This is the danger of subscription stuff! It's on you to check when the cut off point is but very easily done.

I don't like HF because I think the portions were too small, I'm fussy about meat and the door to door sales people are SO pushy. They literally demanded to know why I'd stopped. Plus I hate how every bloody influencer shills for them!

thatsmyhouse · 13/10/2025 21:08

@craigth162 Yes to the scummy veg. I also had meat with a use-by date that was pre-delivery! Again, they will only credit the account rather then refunding.

@AhWeNoss Yes, I said I knew there was a cut-off and I got it wrong. My issue is the delivery is still 4 days away. They can cancel the delivery but will not return the money. That is a choice. The person on the chat says it is so they can support local farmers which is the biggest bullshit I have ever heard in my life.

It's annoying but presumably they place their own orders and plan several days in advance. I feel your pain as I've been stung in a similar way by Gousto (who I think are great) sending me "specially selected for you" items that are clearly just what's left and in no way related to what I usually order, if I forget to cancel. That's the whole point of these subscriptions though, to ensure they get their money.

PollyBell · 13/10/2025 21:15

I dont see what they have done wrong

noblegiraffe · 13/10/2025 21:16

You're getting credit rather than a refund which means they're not robbing you?

Just put it towards some meals that you actually want next week?

thatsmyhouse · 13/10/2025 21:17

What they've done wrong is refusing to refund my money despite the fact that I won't receive a box this week.

OP posts:
thatsmyhouse · 13/10/2025 21:18

I don't ever want to eat it again - I'm so pissed off. I am paid next week and have had a nightmare of a week. Now I have £50 that I need sitting in their account.

They are so sneaky, I clicked on the menu from an email from them, didn’t like any of the choices. Then saw that I’d apparently ordered a box from them, they wouldn’t cancel it. I hadn’t chosen or confirmed anything at all. I was so cross. Ended up with a box of food I didn’t want, will never use them again

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 13/10/2025 21:27

It's a bit OTT to accuse them of 'robbing' you because you put in a recurring order then forgot to change/cancel it in time.

Changingplace · 13/10/2025 21:27

Very weird you’re not getting reminders too, I had a reminder email from them today - I know because I’ve postponed it!

Agree the meals get a bit samey and I often bulk the portions out with extra veg which kinda defeats the object!

piefacedClique · 13/10/2025 21:28

I’ve had the same! I hate them! Love gusto tho even tho it’s not as good value as it used to be x

PicaK · 13/10/2025 21:28

Nope - I think they're really clear on the cut off date. I love their meals and was sad to cancel but wish they did meals for one

LovelyBitOfSquirrrel · 13/10/2025 21:28

Sounds like you need to manage your calendar better, it’s not their fault you don’t remember the cut off dates.

Problemhooves · 13/10/2025 21:29

There is something about their website which makes it easy to fluff up tbh. I once ended up with 6 meals instead of 3. It is deliberately difficult to navigate I think.

I really hate the company and the whole experience of ordering from them tbh.

I'm sure they're working within their own T&Cs though, so I don't know if you'll get your money back. It might be worth using social media or trustpilot to try and get in touch with them?

That’s why I have never tried them. It’s so
irritating isn’t it? We don’t all want to cook for two and then have the same dinner the next day because we are only one person!

Mrsoftandhisstrangeworld · 13/10/2025 21:31

They still hound me about 10 years on. You think you have cancelled it and unsubscribed and they're still sending you leaflets through the door even though you've moved house, like Harry potter's letters from hogwarts.

M1234M · 13/10/2025 21:32

Thank you!!!! Reading this just reminded me to cancel my Gousto box!! I’d skipped a couple of weeks then forgot x

WhywasIborntoolate · 13/10/2025 21:34

This isn’t their fault

tripleginandtonic · 13/10/2025 21:35

Have you tried Gousto? They do meals for one. It’s not cheap that way but I love it!
I’ve used HF before. I once forgot to cancel my box in time and contacted them. They said as we were valued customers they’d credit our account but it was too late to cancel it so to give it to a food bank!

Do they? I’ve grabbed a box from Sainsbury’s if it’s had a yellow label on it (because you’re so right about cost!) but all
of those have been for two people. Hmm definitely one to ponder on - thanks!

Sickleg · 13/10/2025 21:49

My friend loves Hello Fresh and keeps trying to get me to sign up - probably so she gets discount. Seems a lot of packaging but it’s healthier than ready meals I guess.
