New neighbours and parking?

soorty · 13/10/2025 17:59

I shared a driveway and my lovely neighbours have moved out. The new people seem nice but they’ve parked their car on their side of the driveway and parked their second car behind it. They’ve parked like this every day so it’s not a one off.

It makes it so difficult for me to leave my driveway, I have to manoeuvre around their car and 9/10 times a car parked on the opposite side of the road to my driveway and a huge tree (on the pavement) on the other side of me. It’s a very narrow old street.

I know the solution is to talk to them but I really don’t want to have to put in a complaint to them after just a few days. Aibu to say something? Would you react ok to this?

If they’re parked on their side of the driveway then surely that’s fine? Or are they blocking the road?

Arlanymor · 13/10/2025 18:00

Isn’t your driveway the same width all along the length then?

MummaMummaMumma · 13/10/2025 18:01

So they're parked on their own driveway?

INX · 13/10/2025 18:01

I don't really understand the problem if they're on their own side?

TheWytch · 13/10/2025 18:02

So do you normally use the bottom of their driveway to make the turn out? If so then it's you who is trespassing.

If they have both their cars parked on their driveway you really can't say anything.

LadyWiddiothethird · 13/10/2025 18:03

Their drive,of course they can park on it!You are being unreasonable.

childofthe607080s · 13/10/2025 18:03

Sounds like they have one car on the drive and one one the road blocking their driveway and making the exit narrow from OPs to me

Tiredmummy2014 · 13/10/2025 18:04

Can you do a diagram?

TakeMe2Insanity · 13/10/2025 18:05

You know a diagram is needed!

damemaggiescurledupperlip · 13/10/2025 18:05

If it’s a shared driveway it might be single width until it branches. If they are parked on the ‘stalk’, that would make it hard for the OP to get in and out

cpuld you park where they are if you get home first, but in your ‘own’ side?

OneFairBear · 13/10/2025 18:06

Park the same way as their second car so they can understand the problem.

But frankly, if they have 2 cars, and need to put them both on their private driveway, there's not much you can do, they are not doing anything wrong at all, they can't magically make their own driveway bigger.

Escapetothecatshome · 13/10/2025 18:07

Can you reverse the car is so it’s easier to get out

How can it be traspassing if it's a 'shared' driveway.

Yes thank you, that’s exactly it. I’m genuinely not some crazy person that would have an issue with someone parking on their own driveway …

Surely if you’re already on your driveway they have the same problem ?

LivingTheDreamish · 13/10/2025 18:10

What is the issue exactly? Is there not room for two cars to pass side by side? If so then are they perhaps technically trespassing on your side? Or do you both own all the driveway jointly and by parking there they are preventing you from having easy access to your property? These could be legitimate reasons for a chat.

ETA - based on your update I see the issue! What a pain - would reversing in help? I think I would try talking to them but it may not help.

FullOfLemons · 13/10/2025 18:10

Are there road markings across the driveway (where they have parked their second car) ?

There are some really mad people around here !

They don’t have a problem getting off their drive. Apart from one of them blocking in the other, but same household so.

childofthe607080s · 13/10/2025 18:11

Could they pull
fyrther away from you easily or does that just move the problem a few doors down?

BlueMum16 · 13/10/2025 18:14

Where did previous NDN park?

If they are not blocking you getting on/off your drive I'm not sure of the issue.

A tree is not their fault.
People parked opposite is not their fault.

Are you reversing on and driving off?

AgnesMcDoo · 13/10/2025 18:14

Go round with a bottle of wine to welcome them and then have a chat about parking

Firefly100 · 13/10/2025 18:18

Maybe park as their second car does for a while - across your side of the driveway. Then it should be easy to get out. (If they query it say you struggle to get out of the drive due to car/tree/others parking otherwise). If their car on the drive then has a problem due to your car (oh the irony) you can agree you both don’t do it.

They are blocking me. No fully blocking me so I couldn’t even move, but they are parked over my side making it difficult for me as all directions now have an obstacle.

OP posts:
Gingercatlover · 13/10/2025 18:59

Can you get through the gap behind their car on the driveway usually?

I can see it is their second car causing the problem, they can’t block access like that, that is ridiculous parking by them.
