Moving home soon.
i checked on line and it’s saying you need to tip each removal person 50 quid per day each.

they are packing so it’s 4 people for 5 days for various reasons.

so that’s a 1000.!

what would you tip in the south east?

yabu- pay it
yanbu- that’s far to much! Payless.

Best thing will be to ask the company director you are using. I did. He said that I shouldn’t and if we did, they should reject to take it. We offered biscuits and refreshments throughout the day. They underestimated the job, so had to bring extra movers to help end of day. We offered beers to be taken home but that was declined. Do you expect to receive £50 for each day you to work on top of your wage?

  1. Did AI tell you this?
  2. How big is your house if it’s going to take 4 people a working week to get you packed? Two of us packed up a 4 bed in a day. Admittedly we weren’t going far so didn’t pristinely wrap every single glass but that seems a lot.
Unless you’re talking a literal mansion that you’ve not bothered to try and declutter etc then I should think food and drink during packing/move and then a bit of cash for a round of drinks would be sufficient.

No tips from me.

I wouldn't tip them anything. Maybe £50 at the end of the job to have a drink.

You don't need to tip anyone, they make a fair wage in the UK.

We bought ours butties from a local sandwich shop and kept the drinks coming. Then I recommended them and they've had 4 moves off that in the last 6 years.

With movers you don't tend to know how good a job they've done until they are gone. Paint chips, scratches etc

Absolutely not! I work in this industry and honestly crews are happy with unlimited cups of tea and a pack of biscuits. If you do want to tip I’d say no more than £20 each.

I recently moved in the south east. I had a crew of 4 people over 3 days (2 days packing, 1 day move). 3 of the 4 people were different people across the days. On the last day I gave the boss of the crew £160 and asked him to distribute it between them. I was confident that he would, as I’d heard him on a phone call with some other colleague at one point saying “I owe you some tip money, will give it to you tomorrow”.

I am in the SE and used to do removals (self employed though, not a large removals company.) I have never been tipped £50. I would say £20 per person, and that would be for the whole job, not per day! It would be shit to not be offered tea and biscuits. Some people would get in sandwiches, or takeaway pizzas, which was hugely appreciated. More appreciated than a tip. And please let them use the loo; not everyone does, especially at their new house.
