Kitten meowing at my door!

There is a small cat, obviously a kitten meowing at my door as I type this.. i don't have a cat or any pet and I am quite wary of cats. Not really a cat person wouldn't have a clue what to do with it..a bit scared of them too tbh. I can see the cat and it doesn't seem to be hurt or in pain..just meowing to come in! It's not a tiny kitten seems big enough to be out but I don't really want it on the house as I don't know if it has flees or anything..also have my toddler sleeping upstairs and don't want it in the room... what should I do!? AIBU to not let the cat in?

Can you take some pictures and put them on your local FB page?

INX · 12/10/2025 22:03

You should take a photo and put it on your local FB/other neighbourhood groups.

Let it in. As a cat owner I can virtually guarantee that if you let it in, close the door and sit down it will demand to be let out again, almost immediately…

In all seriousness check it’s ok. If it doesn’t leave of its own accord, it might have a microchip, or you could put something on a local Facebook group?

Redpeach · 12/10/2025 22:05

You've been chosen, call it moses!

ItstheHRTpat · 12/10/2025 22:05

I'd go out and check it, maybe it has injured itself and cannot climb over the fence/wall. Then take photos for local groups and lost pet pages. Could you close toddler dcs door and let it in? If its calling to a stranger Id bet there's something wrong with it

I have posted on the local group just need to wait for it to be approved by admin.. I have checked and it seems fine walking around ok, it must have jumped over the fence as it started meowing at my front door too! (Started in the back) I think it just likes us! But im off to bed now and don't really fancy a cat wondering around the house

Careful! A similar thing happened when I was having dinner with some friends at their house. A cat kept meowing at the door, and refused to go away. In the end, they let it in and it immediately made itself all cosy by the fireside. And... never left! The cat ended up living the rest of its days with them, about another 15 years.

My friends had never liked cats, but absolutely adored that animal.

They have a way of finding a home!

Smallsalt · 12/10/2025 23:22

I couldn't go to bed and not let a kitten in.

Fountofwisdom · 12/10/2025 23:23

I really dislike cats, so no way would I be letting one into my house. As it seems to be uninjured and is well enough to move around from your back door to the front, I would just ignore it and it will move on and either go home or try it’s luck elsewhere!
