DC Year 5 - starting 11+ prep? Need 11+ advice

Hi folks, hope you're doing alright today :)

I have a DC in Year 5. She is quite bright - not a child prodigy bless her but she is hardworking, intelligent and picks up new things fairly quickly. The only weakness that stands out to me is her low confidence sometimes, she can be a bit nervous and freeze up!

We've recently moved from London to the north for personal reasons and my high school plans/options have suddenly changed.

I'm now thinking:

  1. Is it possible for me to prepare her to take the 11+ exam next September?

  2. Where on earth do I begin?

I've had a look on the 11+ forum but wondered if anyone could share their experience, if it went well, what they would recommend, etc.

My current plan is to prepare her at home using CGP books and their online 11+ programme with past papers, mock tests, etc. Is it possible to do this in 1 year as we're already in October 2025 and the exam would be next September?

Thank you in advance! :)

I’m in North London and did the 7+ with my child. That was brutal enough and I don’t know what I would have done if my child wasn’t at a prep school already who started the prep a year ahead. I think the 11+ is another level of intensity that I know alot of kids are prepping for. Tutoring seems to be a must. I am in an area of excellent selective private schools and the 11+ is extremely competitive.

This is a great time to start doing tests etc, if a child needs more then they aren't going to cope with the work when they actually get there!

North is vague. Region? Particular schools?

We’re in Lancashire
There’s a few grammar schools in the local area

I’ve also been told it’s possible to get a 100% academic scholarship for places like Stonyhurst but not sure how I feel about it that 🤔
