No mention of the synagogue attack in work email…

I have no skin in the game, this is just an observation.

I work in a largish nhs trust. We have a daily email from our executive team with general hospital updates and this also includes relevant current affairs and special mention of religious holidays etc.

Other worldwide natural disasters and terror attacks, especially uk based ones, have always been included in this daily email, saying thoughts with those involved and if anyone is affected reach out etc etc…

There was no mention of the recent synagogue attack at all. I looked back to double check.

I am not Jewish, but I’m sure there are many people who work in out trust who are, and also I feel this should be treated the same way as similar attacks. It feels disrespectful.

my DiL is Jewish but other than that I’m like you OP. I’m a trustee at a cultural organisation, and our Director reached out to the Director of the Manchester Jewish Museum because we’d had some cross colonisation on a project. I told my DIL and she said it means the world when people put a little thought in like this. So YANBU. Words and gestures make a difference.
And I know from attending all kinds of Synagogue event with her over the years that security has been a fact of life for a long time - way predating 7/10.

As they normally have UK news this is not acceptable.

Bear in mind that Jewish people of my very close acquaintance now feel they don't want to declare what religion they are to the NHS as the father of the person that was the attacker at the Manchester Synagogue is an NHS Surgeon who named his son Jihad.

It would have been good to read sensible advice for your NHS trust workers in this daily newsletter on this subject.

If you don't believe me, I can assure you you are wrong.

KateShugakIsALegend · 09/10/2025 17:28

You are right. It is disrespectful.

Supersimkin7 · 09/10/2025 17:30

It needs mentioning.

There are nutters out there who must be gently reminded as often as possible that the English don’t do anti-semitism.

KateShugakIsALegend · 09/10/2025 17:31

Would be interested in hearing the views of those who voted YABU, because it feels hard to justify, to me.

ThatCyanCat · 09/10/2025 17:31

I am not remotely surprised.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 09/10/2025 17:36

Would you have the balls to ask them why they left out important news, a terrorist attack from the newsletter.
Someone is controlling the narrative.

I don't think it takes 'balls' to simply point out that a major UK news story was missed from the email?

I think it's definitely worth the OP feeding back to them.

Am in the civil service. The synagogue attack has been mentioned, the arson attack on a mosque, rape of a Sikh women has not.

Maybe because a man was murdered in the first instance, but no-one died in the other two?

InsectsMatter · 09/10/2025 18:16

The NHS is institutionally anti semitic.

greencrab · 09/10/2025 18:20

I'm also nhs and surprised by this, our trust had two emails about this

HoskinsChoice · 09/10/2025 18:36

So tax payers money is being used to pay someone in the NHS to tell staff about readily available news? Christ.

(Appreciate this is not directly relevant and yes, you're right, if they're going to waste time producing this crap, it needs to be inclusive!)

Evidence for this? That's a big statement!

In what way, may I ask?

Pollqueen · 09/10/2025 18:43

Same in my firm. Legal 500 corporate law. Constant reaching out over Gaza. Synagogue attack. Crickets

nomas · 09/10/2025 18:53

It should have been mentioned.

I’ve had an email from a work related government organisation with resources signposting services for Jewish people affected by the synagogue attack.

olderandnonthewiser · 09/10/2025 18:57

IMO a daily email from the exec team is a ridiculous waste of nhs resources. Someone’s job is to tell the work force such things? And they take time to read it? I despair.

Having said that, if that’s what they do then obviously they should have mentioned the synagogue attack and it was remiss not to.

CulinaryPumpkin · 09/10/2025 19:10

I also work in the NHS and our organisation sent out 2 emails shortly after the news broke, which were well judged I think.

Could fill a whole thread on the nhs wastage of taxpayers money, including sooo many non-clinical Mickey Mouse jobs….
